Yeah I just looked it up.
I didn't realize how long ago that was. That's the only real horse rivalry I can remember in my lifetime.

As far as "rivalries" go there haven't been a lot, especially recently. Real Quiet/Victory Gallop in '98 is the last really intense one I can recall.

You better take lots of pictures!!

Especially since my favorite horse of all time won that breeders cup
Anyone who is interested in total train wrecks should read the calumet book wild ride. It's a sad end to a dynasty.
Learned a lot more about the whole alydar situation

I wish they would run Bode for this reason alone, but I know they won't. If they ran against each other again it would solidify their rivalry.

She may still be there. Castallano picks up the ride on dullahan, so who knows who gets the mount on tags if they take frenchy off.

kind of off topic but why no more match races in horse racing? I loved that concept. seems like ruffian getting hurt killed the whole match race thing. It would be cool to see it start happening again.

Excuse my ignorance, buts who's frenchy? Is it Desormeaux??

I think that's what they call him.
I gotta say I'm really scared of Union Rags at Belmont Park. He got an absolute terrible trip in the Derby (he was my pick to win that race), has had some extra time off to get freshened up and is undefeated in the state of New York included a 5+ length win at Belmont Park in the G1 Champagne last fall, plus he has great closing speed. I have an awful image in my mind of I'll Have Another passing up Dullahan to grab the lead but then getting passed by Union Rags with a furlong to go.

This is my first year to follow horse racing at all, but I've really enjoyed the first two races. Went to the OTB in Port Allen by myself for the Derby, and really did'nt have a clue what I was doing but with Aspy and Oweos help, I was able to figure out just enough to get a few bets down. For the Preakness, me and a buddy of mine went to the OTB around 1 and gambled on several races, and hit a multi horse trifecta on the big one. Overall, I did'nt win a whole lot of cash but it really made for a fun experience. I'm really looking forward to the next race, and me and my buddy plan to make a trip to the DOwns in Opelousas one weekend soon.

I'm always glad to see people get into horse racing. And you really don't even have to bet or bet a lot to enjoy it. I've been a fan since before I was old enough to gamble. I don't bet on a ton of races (didn't place a wager on the Preakness), just really enjoy the sport. So many nuances and strategies and unpredictability. It also has a sentimental value for me going back to when I was a kid and my gambling addict of a father used to drag me to the track instead of hire a babysitter. It turned out alright; he's sober now and it's something we can both still enjoy together.
It's exciting as shite in person. I've been to the last 3 Belmont's and had an absolute blast every time.

I bet it is. I have a friend that went to the Derby a few years ago and he said it was one of the coolest things he's ever done. How much are tickets to something like that? I bet they are hard as shite to get, especially to the Derby or even to the Belmont in a year like this, when we have a chance for a triple crown winner.

He's a good rider with the amazing ability to totally frick up a trip. He keeps rags (which probably won't happen), he helps iha

He only other thing besides that gives me any hope for Iha is that rags isn't really bred for 1 1/2. Not saying that's the end all be all, but he may struggle a bit at the very end.
He's built to get it, though :(
Only time I will EVER cheer against matz. It feels strange.
