Scottie Pippen: MJ didn't win earlier in his career because he was a horrible team player

Chicago Bulls legend Scottie Pippen was the second best player on the team during the 1990’s, behind Michael Jordan of course. Jordan, arguably the greatest player of all-time, is often the subject of debate alongside LeBron James. Pippen recently shared an eye-opening take on the Jordan-LeBron debate, via Die-Hard Chicago Bulls Fans on Twitter.

“LeBron James will be the greatest statistical [player] to ever play the game of basketball,” Pippen said. “There’s no comparison to him, none!”

However, Pippen opted not to refer to LeBron as the “greatest” player ever.

“So, does that make him (LeBron) the greatest player to ever play the game? I’ll leave that out for debating. I don’t believe that there’s a great player because our game is a team game and one player can’t do it.”

That led Pippen into offering a controversial take on Michael Jordan’s early career.

“I seen Michael Jordan play before I came to play with the Bulls,” Pippen continued. “You guys seen him play, he was a horrible player. He was horrible to play with, he was all one-on-one, he’s shooting bad shots. All of a sudden, we become a team and we start winning, everybody forgot who he was.”

I mean, that was well-documented in the Last Dance.

MJ said he loved Doug Collins as the Bulls coach because the offense was all about MJ dominating the ball and he initially hated Phil because the triangle offense took the ball out of his hands.

I loved, loved Scottie as a player. He has had a hard time living in Jordan’s shadow and got his feelings hurt by Last Dance.

But with his hate for MJ, in all of his discussions about LeBron v Jordan, I have never heard him say LeBron is a better player. In fact he has said in a win or go home game, LeBron is not in same level as MJ or Kobe and that is coming from someone who loves to hate on MJ. It is just undeniable that LeBron is a statistcal monster and has had one of the greatest careers of all time, but he is clearly not the greatest player of all time and to me he doesn’t belong in that conversation.

No one can question the dog in Kobe. He was a competitor at the highest level and a student of the game. Watch the Olympic doc on Netflix and see who turned that shite show around with Mike K.

Lebron is a freak, but I’m taking Kobe. That was my dude.

ETA: They became good friends too

Selfish/didn’t trust his team. I can agree with that statement. MJ is still the GOAT.

Didn't trust his team except for two major shots he assisted on to win titles. That's all.

To me, either side of the MJ/LeBron debate saying that there isn't an argument for the other completely makes me tune out the person's sports opinions. There are arguments to be made for either. To put Kobe in the same conversation is laughable. It's completely fandom devoid of logic.

It was fun as hell to watch Jordan on WGN from 1984-1990 because you didn't have to watch basketball.

It was just Jordan abusing opponents one-on-one, driving, dunking...and then he'd get to the playoffs and get abused by Bird's playmmaking, passing, rebounding, team basketball.

So yes Scottie, kids loved watching Jordan and he was more a star with the youth before the 90s when he (gulp) started passing the ball and the older crowd (who loved Magic and Bird) started to appreciate him...rings and such.

Is this accurate?

ETA:

Jordan was 6-7 in elimination games
Kobe was 9-10

Lebron has a winning record at 14-12

Rediculous to bring up Kobe. Hebgets completely overrated. He was a great player, but he was not what Laker/Kobe fans say he was. He just played for the Lakers.

So Lebron has been eliminated in the playoffs 12 times and has been on the brink of elimination 26 times to Kobe’s 10/19 and Jordan’s 7/13

And you think that makes Lebron better because his team has been on the brink of elimination twice as often as MJ’s?

So Kobe was obviously a fan of young Jordan.
