My opinion in regards to the situation and disagreement with LSU and Jayden Daniel's about his number 5 being worn by someone else...

Pretty soon you will have 3 guys on a team with the same jersey #. Yeah I get it he accomplished a lot but nobody owns a generic number used by the whole world. If # 3 and # 43 can be a number given out in NASCAR then it really isn't a big deal anymore and Jayden Daniel's looks completely dumb for this...

I like retiring jerseys. It should be rare to keep it special.

Jayden is in a rare class of players even worthy of being considered for having their jersey retired, but I don’t know if his career fully justifies it.

Jayden is behaving like a big titty baby.

This is 100% Jayden Daniels' mom

Some schools retire jerseys, others don't. It's not really a big deal one way or the other if someone doesn't lose all sense of reality like in this case.

I think we can all agree that no one should ever wear #2 for Colorado again. At least keep that number sacred.

I haven’t seen the complaints. Why do they think that he deserves to have his number retired? I love what he did at LSU, but I don’t think that 5 should be retired. Is this about Burrow in some way?

The fact that the player in question wearing 5 now is a defensive player makes this whole thing ridiculous when it’s common to have 2 players on a team with the same number. It’s not like it’s another QB trying to rock it.

Especially in college ball where a player may be with a program 4 years of less----------and in most cases with today's NIL going on, much less.

I wonder if some schools will run out of jersey numbers. The NFL discourages officially retired numbers, but you can hang banners. The Detroit Lions for example have unofficially retired numbers like 26 for Bobby Layne, 20 Sanders, Sims, and Barney and 56 for Joe Schmidt.

They just don't issue those numbers to players.

Never been a fan of retiring numbers and never understood fans that wanted numbers retired.

The Yankees are only a decade or so away from not being able to field a team due to retired jerseys

Ok, I have gotten myself caught up on the news this morning.

Daniels is being petty as hell.

Posada, Petite, and Williams are a stretch. Jeter and Rivera, sure.

As for college football, if Tim Tebow doesnt get his number retired, Jayden Daniels doesnt either.

Is anybody wearing #2 for Auburn?

Not one present or former player is bigger than the LSU program. JD's mom, who is his Agent, and their legal counsel can go kick rocks. DJ Pickett's NIL contract states he was promised the #5 jersey and can wear it for the 2026-27 season.

Regarding the mom's claim that LSU infringed on Jayden Daniels' " Name, Image, and Likeness" .... Louisiana State University licensed Daniels NIL for a #5 jersey with Daniels name on the back. Thus, he receives licensing compensation (royalties) for every jersey sold with #5 and his name.

Since 2025 when NIL went into effect, Louisiana State University has licensed every athlete's NIL for a particular product ? potentially licensing compensation. Therefore, DJ Pickett would receive royalty payments for every LSU #5 Pickett jersey that is sold. It appears the Daniels team (mom) wants 100% exclusive NIL rights to every LSU #5 jersey sold.

Here's a crazy number to ponder. On average, the NIL compensation for each jersey sold is 4%. So when a fan buys a $125 jersey, the athlete gets $5.00. Daniels' mom essentially wants that $5.00. Her son just signed a $40,000,000.00 / 4-year contract 2 years ago. This shite should be on American Greed, confirming how to ruin your image with a College fan base.

Screw retiring numbers. (Even though this isn’t even about a retired number).

Screw JD5 and his sandy-vag camp/family.

But most importantly, screw CFB. Because all of this is simply a symptom of the me-me-me culture around the sport. “My stats”. “My playing time”. “My fame”. “My bag”. “My airtime”. Me me me.

And now, “my number”. Like dude feels like he literally owns an unretired number.

34 is a bigger deal on the Plains than 2.

That's dumb bc Cam was way better and more important to the program.

Its already pretty common for 2 teammates on opposite sides of the ball to have the same number. LSU probably has around a dozen numbers on this year’s team that are being worn by 2 different players.

Hell, you don’t see Sam Leavitt complaining that Spears will also be wearing #10

It's dumb in college when you have 100+ kids on the roster. You need every number.
