the lakers were also an absolute mess after both times phil left the team.
the only title that shaq, kobe, jordan or pippen won without phil as a coach was shaq on the heat.

Unless I misunderstood your post. The first Lakers team was a mess(obviously using that term loosely) while he was there, prompting Phil to leave. So it wasn't like he left, then they all of a sudden got bad.

Give Pop the players Phil had and he has an equal amount of success if not more. Give Phil the players Pop had and he doesn't come close to the success Pop had.
Pop > Phil
Pop > Phil

you have no way of proving this

Phil but Pop is the best coach in the league now.
I think Phil could have 4 titles if he was SA coach through the period that Pop has been there. But I could probably say that Pop could have 11 with Phil's teams.
I have always been a huge fan of the triangle, that is why I go with Phil. Pop would/should have 6 with MJ but I don't think his style would have work as well with the Lakers & Shaq to get all 3 of those. Pop's style probably would have fit well with the other 2 with Kobe & company.
Just my 2cents.

Phil, he had to mesh players coming and going to win his. Pop has had the same OLD guys forever.

Hmm i think this is harder to tell.
Phill has 11 rings, and if i am making a dream team i am tapping Phil every time.
Pop has done more with less (although Tim duncan, David Robinson, Tony Parker, and Manu Ginobli are a solid core for those championship teams)
I still take Phil.

I'd take Pop but you can't choose wrong. Two of the all time best

Obviously, just like almost everything else we discuss on this board.

True.
It also depends on my situation.
If I am a big market team i am Taking Phil.
If I am a small market team (and I say this as a Pelicans fan) It 50/50

I think both coaches would win with the opposing coaches championship teams. But I think what makes pop better is he can elevate the lesser talented teams, but he has never won a championship with some depleted roster or anything (no one has).

There's no way of proving the majority of opinions in this thread. This whole argument is subjective. So do you go on rings only? That's cool and all but if that's the criteria used that would mean somebody like Erik Spoelstra is a better NBA coach than Larry Brown. Do you believe that to be true?

You are just making shite up for hyperbole. That's why BilJ said this was stupid. Both coaches had players that fit their systems. And I actually think Manu, Parker, and Duncan could have run the triangle to perfection. I don't know how good Shaq and Kobe would be in a Pops offense probably fine.

Yeah. If Phil Jackson has proven anything, it is that he cant be successful with multiple star players on his team

Why would that be the only criteria? Phil has also done it with multiple franchises and with quite different personnel similar to Pop. I don't see how people act like pop has done something in believable when Phil has done the same 3 different times and with much quicker results.
