Now 14 teams can look forward to getting pounded by the top teams instead of being matched up with a comparable team in a bowl game.

Yes. Exactly this. It’s hard to get excited to be at 12, only to have to play Bama/Georgia, potentially for the second time.

Yep. Like Kirk said on GameDay. Enjoy this Michigan Ohio St game today where it's win and get in cause next year it will be like March madness and both teams will be in anyway just the difference between a 1 seed and a 3 or 4 seed.

We lost 1 game means everything years ago.

RIP CFB, 2011.

The expanded playoffs will be a ratings bonanza (initially) but another nail in the coffin for the purists who always said..."the reason CFB is the best sport is because every regular season game matters."

The fan argument is basically “it’s good because it could have let LSU in at 12. So let’s cheapen the ENTIRE season’s worth of games and the emotional investment and meaning of big match ups, to play one or two more games. “

Been arguing this since 2004.

I actually read a blog article about this in detail in about 2006 and everything that I predicted has come true. Clearly four teams was not enough so now we have the abortion that is 12 teams. Soon it'll be 16.

Why are these conferences businesses anyway? In the NFL, the NFC and AFC are just for scheduling, rivalries, and travel purposes. They aren’t businesses with a chairman.

Sucks. On the plus side as an LSU fan they'll be in the playoffs most years. But then again so will the same 12 teams so it will get old real fast watching the same teams every year in the playoff.

it sucks for the pac 12. SEC isn't losing anybody. our conference is still the same basically. adding oklahoma is no different than adding missouri. A&M has been a good addition

In five years, I guarantee the top 4-6 teams in the playoff will always be in the final four. I’d wager a bet that not one team ranked 7-12 will ever make it.

I’d be willing to take that bet out to 10 years.

I get some of what you’re saying, but aren’t you tired of seeing the same 4 teams get in every year now?

Wait until you get to the inevitable second part of this … rule changes to ensure that the four or six teams don’t dominate and that 7 to 12 have a chance. Because the new model doesn’t work unless there’s parity like in the NFL.

But there is always that chance that a 12 will beat the 1..those other bowl games aren’t exciting anymore bc most of the top guys are opting out. You fix that by having a chance in the playoff. The league has to adapt to changes or it will fail.

Players weren’t opting out of “meaningless bowls” before the CFP era.

Some people won’t be satisfied until there are 32 programs eligible for a 10/12 team playoff - history, tradition, uniqueness, and fan experience be damned.

It wasn’t the cfp that started opt outs..they would be happening if the bcs was still around.

All of this is reflective of the society we’ve built. Money is too important, and people want a lot of it. Now that the NFL can revolutionize your entire family’s lineage with a basic contract, there’s no incentive to play for “honor” or school pride or whatever.

There is no reason this series should end. If it does that is on the two schools.

USC will still play Notre Dame
The Apple Cup has been extended
Iowa still plays Iowa State

There is no reason to not schedule this series OOC other than the two schools are ending it of their own volition.

Oregon doesn’t want to burn their only OOC power 5 matchup on a no profile scab. Iowa should take note and end the Iowa State series.

From what I've read they want to extend it but next year is tricky unless Oregon can get out of their game with Boise State.
