They were the best team in college football last year and they got more money than the far majority of college football programs.

I would argue that Ohio State is the first legit National Champion we’ve ever had. They weren’t given the Natty by sports writer. They weren’t selected to be in a 1 game shootout. They weren’t hand picked to be in a 4 team invitational with undefeated teams being left out.
They were in a field of 12 with the top teams in the country who were all given the same chance - UGA, Oregon, Tennessee, Penn State, SMU, Boise, ND, Arizona St, Indiana, Clemson, and Texas. All parts of the country were included with their best teams. And Ohio State won every game on the field. The truth is no one cares Michigan beat them except Michigan fans. Notice how this was the first year EVER with zero controversy after the trophy was presented. No conspiracy theories, no pay offs to sports editors, nothing. We all went to bed knowing we saw the true champion for the first time ever. And further expansion will only add to the legitimacy of this sport.

The greatest run has a loss on their record. Meaning it wasn't the greatest run ever. Period!

How obtuse are people going to be about this? Greatest run and toughest run by ranked teams faced all yr and playoffs. Fact.
Any one on here discount LSU Natty from 2007 bc of the losses (which were to much worse teams)? No, get over it.

I would have needed to think about it for a little bit if someone asked me who won the national championship.

I guess they should enjoy this while they are the only team to win the expanded playoff. They’re a 2 loss team who didn’t play in their conference championship game. The will be a trivia fact in 6 years. “Who won the first 12 team playoff”

The record for the most ranked wins in a single college football season is held by the 2019 LSU Tigers, who achieved
seven victories against ranked opponents.
This impressive feat contributed to their national championship that year.

No one is claiming 2007 to have the greatest run ever. And to have Ohio State self proclaiming that it had the greatest run ever is pretty desperate for validation. Let the talking heads argue that for you. 2019 has a better claim to the greatest run ever. But LSU never claimed that or being the best college team ever. The talking heads did.

This is ‘UCF undefeated national champs’ level bad.

Okay...but that doesn't make their title more legit than any of the pre-playoff era champions. The playoffs allow teams to prove their dominance on the field but that doesn't necessarily mean the team that wins it all is the best team in the land. It just means they got hot at the right time.
Would anyone argue that the 2011 New York Giants were the best team in the NFL that year? They were a 9-7 team and nine other teams finished with better records than them. However, they got hot at the right time and upset every team they played in the NFL Playoffs to win the Super Bowl.

Ohio State beat six top 10 teams last season including four in a row in the payoffs..
Both feats are impressive.

Both titles that Ohio State has won in the playoff era, were times when they shouldn’t and wouldn’t have been in a title game.
Well, they deserved to get into the playoffs in both 2014 and 2024.
Oh and OSU would have been in a 4 team playoff too in 2024 and won that too

I think that says more about the state of CFB. A playoff system stretching from early December to middle of January is dumb.
