Ok. Once again, you realize Catholic voted against the split correct?

I did, but tell me it one more time it might sink in.

I'll keep in mind the seriousness with which you post on the MSB.

You might want to try louisianasportsline.com which has message boards that have more of a North LA/small school slant on things

There's also the Recruiting board which should probably be combined with other HS sports topics...

Look I have a bunch of catholic high friends. I just don't let them over to my house. We gave you guys that ship cuz we had just won 3 in a row a few years earlier. Wanted CHS-BR to have a taste of the glory.

ETA: wow the schools in Louisiana are far less populous.

Which makes it crazy how much talent comes out of the state.

Just fwiw Zachary has always been against the split. And the late 90s and early 00s were dark times in our athletic history. We didn't let that sway us to easier roads to the title.

Especially the early 00’s. The split that helped Zachary was getting out of EBRP School System. That was the only split that matters to Zachary

In all seriousness, kudos to Zachary for that. Glad they beat West Monroe. With what Zachary is building, they aren’t going to be scared to play anyone. That is supposed to be the point......rise up to meet the challenges.

In St Charles parish Hahnville was against the split but Destrehan wanted it. Both lose a few guys a year to the privates but unless they are going to Jesuit or Brother Martin those parents can’t say they left for academic reasons that’s for sure.

If there’s a playoff game featuring a non-blue blood with a special senior class vs. a blue blood, always bet on the superior program to win. Even if the non-blue blood team is 10-0 and hosting the blue blood which is 6-4 and loaded with underclassmen. I learned that the hard way in 2014.

All that matters is 5A, Big boys are Acadiana, Barbe, West Monroe, Sulphur, Zachary, Destrehan, Parkway, and Hahnville.

All other important football schools are private or in lower classifications, St Aug, Jesuit, Catholic, STM, Parkvkew, Evangel, Neville, Karr, Warren Easton, Welsh, Kinder, Haynesville, Brother Martin, etc

So would the best of 5A whoop up on the best of Division I? What did it look like before the split? The split was only a few years ago correct?

Not necessarily. Catholic did beat Zachary this year and they were the division I and 5A champs respectively. Zachary beat Catholic in 2015 and they were both champs that year too.

Pre split those two teams were in the same playoff bracket.

I jokingly made a comment about CHS being for the split but my understanding of the history is this:
1. 5A and 4A public schools got tired of losing to Evangel and John Curtis (select schools). Those pubs moved for those selects to play down to their enrollment (2A ish).
2. lower class public schools got tired of not being competitive in their playoffs after that move. They pushed for the split. Initially it was just football. Now all sports are split.

ONLY during playoffs.

For the most part, over the last 8 years, Brother Martin has scheduled strong non-district opposition based on the previous year's play.

Over the last couple years, they have gone to Sulphur twice, Patterson, routinely play Karr or Warren Easton. This season, opened the year bringin in Petal, Ms. who were strong. Then had Easton, went to Hahnville and got their first win of the year and did a good job handling Pooka.

The fan base gets angry because, like this year, started 1-4 with in district losses to J.C. and St. Aug. before going on a win streak to the end of the year. But, it gets them ready for the "back end" of the year; parents get angry with the travel, but it's good for the players. Band parents don't "get it" AT ALL, and won't hear rational explanations.

But they aren't separated during the regular season. Private and public schools could be in the same district
it just seems completely stupid to have a separate public/private state playoffs but have public/private districts

It is because the publics are getting their cake and eating it too.......

If they did a complete split, the public schools programs as a whole would be done in this state.

99% of the money is with the privates

I think it will vary year to year

U-high, the state Division II champs beat the 5A champs, the Division I champs, and the 3A champs this season

Like someone mentioned earlier in the thread, only 2 "Private/Select" schools ever won a 5A title. Evangel has four titles in 5A while Rummel captured the final 5A title before the split. 5A was created in 1991. Here's a list of the title games:

1991 5A Thibodaux 18, Neville 15 (OT)
1992 5A Carencro 28, Neville 27 (OT)
1993 5A West Monroe 28, Destrehan 21
1994 5A Hahnville 36, Ouachita 28
1995 5A Neville 35, Hahnville 7
1996 5A West Monroe 24, Carencro 21
1997 5A West Monroe 22, Shaw 19
1998 5A West Monroe 32, Ruston 14
1999 5A Evangel 20, West Monroe 14
2000 5A West Monroe 35, Shaw 7
2001 5A Evangel 34, West Monroe 27
2002 5A Evangel 35, West Monroe 4
2003 5A Hahnville 41, Evangel 35
2004 5A Evangel 21, West Monroe 20
----------------------------------------------------------
2005 5A West Monroe 28, Acadiana 7
2006 5A Acadiana 13, Sulphur 10
2007 5A Destrehan 41, Acadiana 21
2008 5A Destrehan 14, West Monroe 3
2009 5A West Monroe 30, Rummel 0
2010 5A Acadiana 21, West Monroe 14
2011 5A West Monroe 20, Carencro 13
2012 5A Rummel 35, Barbe 14

Evangel was in class 3A in 1998, winning the title that year and moved up to 5A the following year. Curtis never played in class 5A until the split in 2013. In 2005, teams were forced to play in the designated enrollment-based classification. So, Curtis was pushed from 4A down to 2A while Evangel had to drop all the way down to 1A from 5A. 2005 & 2006 they both won the 2 titles in their respective classifications. Then Evangel moved up to 2A in 2007. In the 6 years they were both in 2A, they faced each other 4 times in the championship game with each school winning twice. Curtis also won the 2007 and 2011 titles; they defeated Evangel in the state semifinals in both years.
