And this tournament increase is not going to benefit mid majors. It's going to be more mediocre high major teams added to pad payouts to power conferences
And if you finish 5th in your conference, you have already proven you're not the best team in the country. No need to see extra teams in the thing. Talk about meaningless regular season.

I don't like it but it's just 4 more play-in games so who really cares? No one really considers the play-ins to be the actual tournament anyways which is still 64. Overblown.

Greed killing yet another thing we love. News at 10.

What is the point? No low seed is going to win 8 straight games vs tourney level teams. This is retarded

If we were curing cancer, it wouldn't be dumb. What is your point?

As usual, more greed damages something that used to be perfect.

This would be a great idea if they actually seeded the first 52 teams 1 thru 13, then let the lower 24 have a play in for the seeds 14-16.
If you did it that way, there’d be no more Florida vs Miss Valley State in the 1st round as 16 seed. Instead a #1 seed would be getting a team (using this year as example) on the level of Boise State, assuming they knock out the trash low major auto bid conference winner.

This is so stupid. I had reservations about the First Four. Fine, have a few games but the Madness starts on Thursday.
This? Nope.

More basketball!!!!
More mediocre basketball with near empty seats and games on minor pay-for-view stations that won't allow any showing of highlights on the TV stations where the never hear of them before colleges are located.
And that other series of post season games is just going to have even fewer named teams to choose from.

The benefit of being a top seed is playing one of those automatic qualifiers and having an easy first round game. If you won your conferences bid you shouldn't have to do more to work to participate in the primary tournament, you did your job already.
Let the last at large teams battle it out for the last spots in the tournament.

Sports are already dumb. It's supposed to be fun, it's not life or death.

But you would still be getting the easiest possible game in the round of 64.
Why should automatic qualifiers get auto bids into the seeded tourney when better teams would have to win a game to get in?

Because the tournament is being expanded for the benefit of middling at large teams from power conferences. The automatic qualifiers are in this tournament whether there is expansion or not. Why should they have to do extra work?

Tell me that this is a typo. The women's tournament is going to be 76 players. Right?

It wouldn't bother me if they went back to 48 or 53

fricking dumb. Especially the women.
Some of those first round women's games are going to be incredible in the worst way possible
But I just want to make sure Wisconsin can still lose to the 12 seed in the first round in this new version of the tourney.

They’re just following the Texas HS football model. So many classes and divisions you have teams with 2 or 3 wins making the playoffs.
I think there was a year recently when a team with zero wins got in.

Apparently you don't get the point any of us are making. This isn't "fun". It's making what was once an interesting tournament, a watered down bore fest. And it cheapens the regular season. Your non-sequiturs about not being life or death do not add any value.

Terrible, especially for women.
Outside the top four or five, there are simply not enough competitive teams to play for a national championship.
A better idea for women is to have five or seven game series for the four best teams, and have an NIT like tournament for the other 72.
