Playing while ineligible is definitely cheating on the field.

It’s not an individual award… he had plenty of help as do all winners.

He made a bunch of white haired bowl executives and ADs tens of millions who otherwise are worth 1% of that in a legal system.

Those 'white haired' guys didn't make tens of millions. Reggie Bush was making more than they were. Cost of attendance at USC is like $70k /yr now...not sure what it was then, but it was still pretty expensive, and it was all free for Bush. Add all the stuff he was getting, illegally, and he was easily making more than his AD or these 'white haired' guys that run bowl games. Then look at the other players getting stuff, illegally, and you have a fundamentally unfair and uneven playing field.

Without those guys, where is Reggie Bush? You think millions of people are like, 'hey there's this guy at the park with a football and he's just running around like crazy, let's go watch this guy'?

Without Reggie Bush, those guys still organize bowl games and make money because people love CFB and they love their schools first and foremost, over and above any player. That's why Nebraska's stadium is full for the past 15yrs while they are hot garbage on the field.

One day, I hope a Reggie Bush type player walks away just prior to the season starting, and when his team still goes out there, still fills the stadium, maybe you guys will understand how it works in college sports.

If it impacted his recruitment that would be one thing but the dude was just given gifts after he established himself as a baller. And it wasn’t like there was a portal he could threaten to jump in

Acting like monetizing his personal success was cheating is silly. USC football did not benefit. He was the best player in the game by a mile, there’s no reason he should have had the trophy for best player taken from him to begin with

Keep telling yourself that. The star players of the early 2000’s/BCS Era was the reason college football took off nationally because of popularity among fans into the social media age which lead to all of these ridiculous extra bowl games for kick backs for the higher ups. These same Higher up’s leverage these mega tv deals for these conferences that destroyed college football with realignment.

Keith Jackson had so much mental history on the spot, he called that run of Bush "he bounces in there for daylight" which is a reference to OJ Simpson's famous run against UCLA famously dubbed "run to daylight" in the then Game of the Century....and both in their runs turned their running to the left on a dime and left the UCLA defenders floundering.

This is how I always respond to people who say this. My dad played at LSU. He was a utility offensive linemen, played sparingly his five years. He got cash and even a job where he would clock in and leave and then come back to clock out. If they did that for him, that tells me everyone was getting stuff. And this was the 80s. Miss me with that take.

My take on Reggie Bush is he's the Pop Warner kid who can just find a way to the outside and be faster than everyone. At some point that is supposed to stop b/c the guys on defense are just as fast. He got all the way to the pros doing it. It was crazy fun to watch. Frustrating as a Saints fan when I just wanted him to run straight and pick up 5 yards.

.

Fans hated on USC but none could deny they were a Hollywood show....

And Bush was pure central casting as the action hero....he runs for an 80-yard Touchdown and then on TV you get to see Song Girl sweater puppies....glory days of CFB and Keith Jackson calling it. Now that was entertainment.

but that enabled USC to get him in the first place. that's the issue. without the promise of money/gifts/illegal promises, he may not have attended USC

If by "followed the rules" you mean "didn't get caught" I would agree
