has gotta be Terry Bradshaw. 4 Super Bowl titles in 6 years. No radio in his helmet. No protection from targeting. Called his own plays. Give the guy his due.
I approve.......

I think because of the rules these days of a DB getting flagged for PI just for looking at the receiver the wrong way, people don’t realize how truly efficient Steve Young was.
Then before him, Ken Anderson.
And before him, Lynn Dawson.
Now these days everybody completes 65% of their passes and has a 95+ passer rating.
Montana’s remembered as great because of the 4 SB wins and his passing efficiency, but I think now in the present day people don’t realize how good the other three above were as well.

Maybe underappreciated today but not in his era. I was a big football nerd and would buy all these books and magazines that would rate the all time greats-I still have one written by George Allen- and TB was always ranked in the top five or so all time. His career has become less appreciated bc of the vast differences between the modern game and the game in his day, but I still can’t say he’s the most underappreciated. I would go with a guy from the same era who was nowhere near as talented as TB but who was very accurate: Ken Andersen.

Bradshaw got all sorts of praise during the 70s, 80s and 90s. There are just more people to discuss over the last 3 decades.
Ken Anderson is definitely under appreciated.

Warren Moon,
Best answer so far and I was a huge Bradshaw fan growing up. People will no doubt compare numbers of different players, but that isn't really fair because of how the game has changed through the years.
Another good one was Kenny Anderson but he was usually on bad teams and seemed to get hurt a lot.
The best QB who has been forgotten is Bert Jones. If he had not gotten hurt he would have a bust in Canton without a doubt. The guy was literally John Elway before John Elway. Just as strong if not stronger arm, more accurate and similar type of runners.

Warren Moon is my answer too. Also interesting is at what age his stats take off in the NFL.

Played well in the Super Bowl but had the unfortunate luck of going up against Joe Montana.

Warren Moon is a fantastic answer to this question. Part of it is because he was not viewed as a pro style QB coming out of college, which led to him spending a number of years in the CFL, where he dominated. Whether it was race--for you younger folks, black QBs were much less common at the time--or as to his style of play, I can't say. But Moon was a guy who racked up big stats with a live, accurate arm.
I can't really go along with Bert Jones as the answer to this specific question because of his career being shortened and marred by injury, but I love that you brought him up because he was CRAZY talented. I am not sure I have ever seen a better arm pre-injury. And he wasn't just a Jeff George type with a big arm but lacking in other areas. He was a fierce competitor and showed what he could do when healthy by winning the league MVP award in ~1977.

Steve Young is a good answer. I think people have forgotten how great Dan Fouts was, and they certainly have forgotten Bert Jones, who was the best QB in football for a few years before injuries and the Colts' general incompetence ruined his career.
Recently, Russell Wilson is a great answer. I think its bizarre Kurt Warner's not in the Hall of Fame.
