This place’s never ending beef with PBP guys will always be fascinating to me
I’m in the same boat. Gus Johnson is the only one I’ve ever heard or watched that I’ve kind of been annoyed with, but the announcers (whoever they are or their perceived “bias”) never irritate me enough to take me out of a game.

I do find it odd that Aikman makes more than Buck

Aside from live sports, does anyone here put ESPN on?
They now have the MLB package so I have it for the Cubs, and I also watch the PGA on it. But I'll cancel both of those packages when the Cubs are too far back and when the PGA season ends.

Who exactly are you arguing shouldn't have been laid off?
"They have to find money to overpay McAfee and Stephen A". That reads like an argument to you? You'd be great on First Take.

I miss the old ESPN News 30 minute highlight loops. Now they have ESPN 8 crap like pop a shot on instead.

Steven A Smith is obnoxious.

MLB rights probably cost a lot and the ratings don't justify it
Sunday Night baseball used to be a bigger deal when fans didn't have full access to watch every game their team plays if they so choose. Too many viewing options these days to lure in casuals to watch a random regular season game just because it's on tv
So those things may not be a better than an actual sport but cost less to draw a similar shitty number

Ravech is the best baseball guy in the business. Crazy they let him go if they continue to have ANYTHING to do with baseball.

I’ve noticed that when LSU plays, the threads about the PBP guys are way more prevalent when we are losing and they typically start as soon as the other team takes the lead
It’s like clockwork. Especially for baseball

Makes sense with espn getting further away from the MLB
.....Further away from real sports.

SA Smith - $20M + (he also makes $12M a year from SIRIUS/XM) Aikman - $18M + for basically 17 NFL games plus playoffs - ridiculous P McAfee - $17M ... screening idiot "Look at me" J Buck - $13-15M A Schefter - $9M ... with social media today breaking stories, he needs to go M. Greenburg - $6.5M .. such a whiney loser Kornheiser and Wilbon - $6M each - even more of a joke, who watches them ?
I mean, are any of these guys worth these dollar amounts? If there was a WAR stat for broadcasters, I think ESPN would realize that replacing most of these guys with an average talking head won’t really result in less eyes on the show or game.
Are there really media outlets that are offering up competitive salary numbers for a guy like SAS? Does he really generate the clicks and streams that provide enough revenue somewhere for $20 mil?

They let go of Ravech but keep this bald headed wildebeest with her obnoxious glasses and huge lips

Without a doubt ESPN could cut half its current salaries without seeing a drop in revenue. The bloat is insane
Twitter proved once companies get to a certain size they forget to actually take a look at what is actually still necessary to maintain

Actually, Trey Wingo did a deep dive on this topic a few months ago. He took what networks are paying and compared them to ratings.
The NFL and College Football are about $500-$550 per viewer
Golf is about $300 per viewer
MLB was at $900 per viewer, which is higher but not significantly so.
The NBA is $4000 per viewer.
It's not MLB that's overpriced, but the NBA.

All media companies are bloated. They hire a lot because they have a lot of cash.
ESPN is not laying people off because they are broke. They are doing it because every once in a while, they come to their senses.
