But isn't it possible that the Cubs could have jumped the gun? Maybe closer to the deadline, the price would have went down

There are only a few controllable aces out there being floated. And realistically only 2-3 will actually get traded. There are too many teams in the market for one. I don't think the value is doing anything but going up

The sox, rays, As know what they're holding. The market for those guys has been brewing for 6 months and is about to boil over

Like I said you don't have the prospects for any of those

Like gyno said, young MLB players > prospects

I wouldn't be shocked if Addison Russell is on the block.

And as another person quoted, cubs have some really promising low ball pitchers that are on the radar, just not in top 100 lists. They have done other MLB ready guys that are blocked. I think they are posturing at this point but they still have ammo

Or they didn't want to pay. Novel concept

You may very well be right, but history will show if they overpaid for Quintana. Also, Lester, you need to get this "ace" usage under control.

Russell's value is way down right now, I'm sure. Regardless, the Cubs aren't trading an every day player. Especially one that was the core of winning a World Series.

Russell is 23 and has a 3 & 4 win season under his belt but has been a distraction lately.

Baez can play SS and Happ 2B if needed. Prob won't happen but the option is there

I would give it a greater than 0 chance of happening, but not by much. Selling low isn't a hallmark of Theo Epstein.

In Astro speak Quintana is an ace bc DK is an ace

In reality you want em to be a SP2

Oh man I didn't realize that Quintana had multiple sub 3 ERA seasons with a near 1.0 WHIP. Damn now I've changed my mind

Not sure who they could move... Nunez, Pence, Belt... no one would want Pence, Moore, Cain and they not moving Posey or Madbum

Yes hurt. Quintana has also never reached dallas' 2014, 2015, 2017 numbers. Quintana is a good 2 pitching like a 4 this year. It was a nice get sure. Definitely not an ace though

Quintana and Jon Lester have almost identical numbers over the past 5 years. If the Cubs just cloned Lester and added him to the rotation while paying him less, it will work out just fine.

I wasn't referring to your personal use of the term, just its usage in this thread.
