Giants win again late vs Cubs, now 1 over .500 and just 2 back of wildcard.

They've won 16 of their last 19. They are beating more teams besides the Cubs

How the giants can watch the Yankees the last two years and not deal bum and smith is beyond me. They aren’t winning the ws and if they love bum that much then deal him build a better team around him and resign him. Heck just look at the mistakes of the nats last year with Harper

the only contending team that they can trade him to without his agreement is the Twins, I think. Otherwise, he would have to give his consent to any deal, and if the Giants are winning with Bochy, I don't see Bumgarner agreeing to anything.

He only has that deal as leverage, the Giants don't wanna tank in Bruce Bochy's final season and the team is not going to keep playing this well. They don't want to waive the white flag but don't want to quit. Which is why a deal with Tampa makes sense, they unload Smith and get some good young players who are ready to play now.

Giants are winning with Bochy,
big picture, what are they winning

They have one of, if not the, worst minor league systems in the sport. They have no legitimate young talent at the major league level. Their next 3 year outlook is apocalyptic. They have two real trade assets that can go a long way in changing that outlook. Do people really think they should hold onto those two to maybe get the 2nd wild card spot?

I mean didn't they win the WS coming out of the WC?

No I don't think they can, but I also didn't expect them, Arizona, etc to be as good as they've been.

The giants are gonna crash. Hard. They are having one of the most lucky two week run i have ever seen in terms of sequencing

There are a horde of scouts from virtually every contender coming into town to see Madison Bumgarner and #SFGiants tonight. The Giants still plan to listen to all offers for Bumgarner before deciding whether to move him, closer Will Smith or other relievers instead, or no one.

Few see MadBum going anywhere now. Things can change in a hurry but this is typical from rival exec: “No way Giants can sell, they’re on fire.”

Mets are committed sellers now, but they don’t believe they can do total rebuild in NY. Syndergaard is coveted by others (esp Yanks but many teams) but remains unlikely to be dealt now. The hope is 1 good start for Wheeler will draw interest. Vargas probably most likely to go.

so, again...

unless it is a trade with the Twins, Bumgarner has to approve any deal to a contending team. Even if the Giants front office made the decision today to give up and try and trade Bumgarner, I don't see him agreeing to anything. He and Bochy are likely pretty tight. These players don't give a shite about 3 years from now, especially with him being a free agent after the year. If they are winning, and have a legit chance at a wild card spot, then I could see Bumgarner declining all deals in an attempt to have one more run with Bochy.

The Mets' dysfunction pleases me. They need to completely tear it down in the offseason but they won't do it. Van Wagenen will double down and go all in.

Agreed. The NTC was obviously crafted for leverage purposes but I dont see him waving it while they’re in contention.

Nah, I disagree on tearing it down. They have a good club when healthy. Cano and Diaz obviously have to perform better but still.
McNeil, Alonso, Nimmo, Confonto, Cano, Ramos and Frazier are all reasonably good players (I'm assuming Cano isn't as bad as what we are seeing)
Having Thor, Diaz productive, Matz, and others the Mets should realistically be better next season.

I agree with you. I don’t see him approving a trade unless they get very cold between now and the deadline.

They’ve said this since 2015.
