Demeco Ryans totally retarded
It was a very dumb extension from the get go.
Hopefully we can catch the White Sox. If Baldwin could somehow get hot and win ROY we could be really set up with pool $$.

Not trading Iglesias or even presenting Ozuna with a trade is one of the most negligent things I’ve ever seen.
All of the relievers should have been dealt in my opinion as has been said in this thread.
Toscano’s belief that ownership didn’t give the green light to take on $$ in order to dump Ozuna and Iglesias is the only feasible explanation.
No matter what the reasoning is though the way the organization has been run for the last 12-18 months is beyond embarrassing from ownership to AA to Snit.

2021 was very lucky and I would say the 2nd/3rd worst team (excluding this year) of the 7 AA playoff teams. I think the 2022 and 2023 teams were the best constructed Braves teams of the last 25 years without a doubt. Once the WS hangover wore off they played at a 118 win pace over a 275 game stretch from mid 2022-end of 2023. He gets credit for that.
He was also very patient when he arrived and I thought did a good job of supplementing the minor league core he inherited with smart trades and signings. It was a very natural build up from 2018 to 2023.
Things have really gone off the rails since the end of the 2023 season though starting with the Kelenic trade. Injuries/payroll declining etc. can be blamed but a few of the extensions were ill advised and it seems they’re not wiling to admit mistakes on evals and they’re just willing to go down with the ship.
I’m not a huge fan of their draft strategy but they’ve done a pretty good job of finding some very productive big leaguers quickly with guys they’ve picked (Schwellenbach, Baldwin, Harris, Strider). But their drafts have produced zero organizational depth and the early returns in the IFA market has not been good since the ban ended.
Nothing they’ve done organizationally since the Sale deal has made much sense to me. Today was really dumbfounding.

Olson now leading all first basemen in both fWAR and bWAR.
I think Harris has to go to Gwinnett tomorrow. We’re pushing 130 ABs without a walk and he’s now dead last among qualifiers in wRC+.
Murphy and Contreras will both make about $30M the next 2 years so it will be an easy comp to make at the end of 2027.
I think the Murphy trade was very minor in terms of missteps over the last few years. When healthy he’s very solid and as I said you could trade him right now for a real return if you want to open up more ABs for Baldwin which I wouldn’t be opposed to.

He’s having a much better year than Contreras but I was moreso talking about the extension than the trade
Grading the extensions I’d go
Acuña A
Albies A
Olson B
Murphy B-
Riley C
Harris D+
Strider F
I think the first 5 are all clearly above water in terms of trade value.
Acuña: top 5 player in the sport when healthy
Albies: insane surplus value throughout the deal with club options coming at the perfect time if teams wants out
Olson: 2nd in MLB at his position in WAR since the extension was signed. Would likely get a very similar deal on the market today if not more.
Murphy: 4 3+ WAR seasons in the last 5 years. Not super expensive for a top 10 catcher. Could be traded today if you want for positive value.
Riley: TBD. Would’ve been pretty costly in arb most likely so it’s not been a bad deal yet. If he doesn’t figure things out it could turn pretty bad due to the length. Could also still be a bargain if he regains form as he’s been a top 5 3B for most of his career.
Harris: Elite CF is still valuable and batted ball metrics are still very good but the plate discipline is so bad it could ruin his career. This is one that could improve but he seems to be totally lost in terms of pitch recognition.
Strider: Already discussed. Was by far the most curious the day it was announced as it was all upside for the player and zero upside for the team.

Guaranteeing $75M to a velo reliant pitcher who has already had TJS in exchange for one extra year of control was just so unnecessary.

$64M guaranteed to Strider over the next 3 years :rotflmao:

We will just have to take a loss. The only way we move these 3 is taking it up the arse
Murphy being 30 now would lessen the value some but he’s on pace for a 3+ WAR season in less than 100 games and has an OPS near .850.
Would be his fourth 3+ WAR season in the last 5 years. Outside of last year with the injury he’s been rolling out of bed and putting up 3 WAR seasons every year since 2021.
I think the deal he’s on is probably a bit of a bargain compared to what he’d get if he hit the market this offseason.
With Baldwin looking more than legitimate and some of the other clear holes we have I don’t hate the idea of trading Murph. I think you could get a legitimate piece or two back. He’s an upgrade for probably 2/3 of the league at catcher on a reasonable deal.
Olson I think you could get quite a haul for without a doubt. No reason to trade him in my opinion but if you did you’re certainly not eating money or taking it up the arse. Riley is the biggest concern for me long term. I wouldn’t hate trading him but seems like you’d be selling low.
Need to drop Riley in the order badly.
Ronnie
Olson
Ozuna
Murphy/Baldwin
Riley
Verdugo
Ozzie
Allen
Harris
Harris should get a lot more pitches in the zone with Acuña hitting behind him. His numbers in the 9 hole are far better than anywhere else.

How many of them are ultra reliant on velo and got a pre arb extension?
The extension here was always a big mistake.
A guy who already had TJS and is reliant on extreme velocity. Made no sense not to go year to year.

That has literally nothing to do with the point I was making, you fricking retard.

Allergic to .500. Gonna finish the season 80-82.
Very similar feeling to 2021 (not in anyway comparing the rosters or saying it will end the same) with the inability to get over a mental hump.
Difference is we were doing it when we got to .500 instead of when we would get to 1 game below.
We lost 18 straight games when we were at .500 attempting to get over .500 before finally winning against the Nats when we were 56-56 to get to 57-56 in August.
