Where do you work? Four tickets to a Saints game will run you at least $400-500 and that won't even get you good seats. Then a hotel will be another $150 a night. Food and beer in the stadium is easily another $100 if Dad has more than 1 beer and the kids get all the shite they want.

No thanks, I'd rather buy the Sunday Ticket and watch every game for less than the tickets for one game.

It's just that it has been reported this past year was the lowest attendance figures since 2002

the lock out could have had an impact as well. Labor fights in sports piss people off.

ok if the NFL is falling apart surely I should be able to score cheap Saints tickets, both single game and season??????

Saints are exception to the rule on attendance right now.

NFL has an attendance problem the owners and Goodell have even said so.

Aside from cost and following fantasy sports, a live game at home can be boring.

The redzone channel almost never stops showing action, but at a live game btw TV timeouts, moving the sticks, injuries etc etc you spend a lot of time sitting on your arse doing nothing. If you could check your fantasy team or follow a different game then maybe it would be worth it.

well that depends on your actually commitment for 1pm skins games we are out there around 6 or 7am sometimes

For LSU games people are out there at 6-7am whenever the game starts at 7pm, so people around here like to tailgate. I guess it's just harder to do in the middle of the city, especially when the game starts at noon. Not to mention a lot of the guys who are going to the Saints game went to the LSU game the day before, so they are probably worn down some from that

Put wifi in stadiums...maybe more TV's in seating areas where it shows NFL redzone or something like that.

Don't try to explain that just because its different here doesn't mean its like that everywhere. I.e. college baseball is biggest sport behind football

Cost, access to Red Zone, and fantasy football are all reasons to stay home (in that order). Having instant replay won't matter

I think on top of this the in-stadium product is pretty lackluster. It just doesn't have the same feel of being an "event" that a college game does IMO.
I think this is it, the NFL live experience doesn't out weigh the at home experience enough to justify the cost

that is not quite the case with the college atmosphere

You pick the two options below:

1) Drive to the stadium, fight traffic and find a $40 parking spot. Walk to the stadium and wait in line to get in. Walk to your seat where you are crammed in like a sardine. Pay $8 for a beer, $6 for a hot dog and $6 for nachos. Takes forever to use the restroom. After the game, fight the crowd to get back to your vehicle and then fight traffic to leave. No wifi in the stadium so you can't keep up with fantasy sports or other games. Can't see the game from all the different angles.

2) Sleep in as late as you want. Go to store and pick up snacks and drinks for the game for cheap. Watch the game at home with no driving or chance for a DWI. Go to the bathroom and grab a drink at your leisure. You can pause and rewind the game as you please. You get to keep up with other games and watch other games. You can text and call your friends when you want to. You get to sit on your couch or in your recliner. No traffic to fight.

How many NFL games have you been to? Outside of the good seats, it's not exactly a country club crowd. Hell, I don't go unless someone offers me a ticket.

A few things are at play.

1. The economy sucks, so people have less disposable income

2. Prices are high between tickets, concessions, parking, etc.

3. The timing sucks for those of us living outside of the main area thanks to noon kickoffs.

4. Alternatives, mainly college football, are more attractive for various reasons.

In my case, I have LSU season tickets and end up giving up 6-8 Saturdays a year for it. I can't also justify going to New Orleans for a noon kickoff Saints game against a crap team like the Rams.

DirecTV and Red Zone play into this, too, since you can watch games outside your normal broadcast area.

If they want to fix things, they could start by making prices more reasonable or staggering more of the game start times so that they don't all start at 12 noon CST on Sunday.

Personally I think the home element and the redzone channel have made people couch potatos. I know my tv stays on redzone for 6 hours during football.

If they could create a package at all 32 stadia that has four tickets, four decent food items, four drinks, and a parking pass for under $125 or so then I would wager that attendance would increase substantially.

Those tickets would probably be nosebleeds in the end zone to get THAT cheap.

I'd say somewhere closer to $250 is possible though, depending on the team, as the Pack have no problems selling tickets but the fans in Jacksonville look like empty seats.

haha, I'm a college student but I was working off the 50k a year average which is about 1k a week. Half would be 500. For a family of four, that's about as much as it'd cost. Pretty simple.
if you are taking two kids to the game you probably aren't going to be buying 10 beers (at least I hope not), and tickets can be had for $25 a piece at most stadiums, so if you eat before or after elsewhere, and plan your parking for a cheaper option ahead of time, there is no way it ould cost $500 each game

The problem markets tend to be Jacksonville and in the Southwest, such as Arizona, San Diego, Oakland, etc.

The only team in the north east with possible problems is Buffalo and that's because they haven't been very competitive in about a decade.

not in any real NFL town

even then the team has to suck for you to get anything close to 25 a ticket
