Update

LINK

LIV Golf is pivoting its operations in a bid for survival. The breakaway golf tour announced a series of strategic plans on Thursday morning designed to offset the impending loss of the Saudi funding which has backed the tour since its inception.

A LIV Golf source with knowledge of the tour’s operations told Yahoo Sports that LIV is seeking long-term financial partners for the next stage of the tour’s development. The tour has sought to emphasize its continuing commitment to its players, tournaments and fans through what it’s deeming a “strategic transition.” A LIV official acknowledged to Yahoo Sports early Thursday morning that the Saudi Public Investment Fund (PIF) is ending its financial support of the tour after the 2026 season.

This seems like a political campaign vowing to continue to run even after being eliminated. But maybe they can grift more money from random billionaires.

Which may be a more savvy move than Koepka made.

How could any PE firm turn down an asset that nobody watches, but also burns $500M a year? Can't miss opportunity.

To stay with the political theme, it's very much a:"LIV can still win this if Mike Pence does the right thing." type of vibe.

All LIV players should have to take a percentage of their LIV earnings, and pay it to the PGA. The PGA should then divvy that up amongst the players who remained with the PGA.

Probably even force them to qualify through Q school again.

Why?
Because the PGA tour will again have a monopoly? How American. How dare someone make a decision in their own self interest.

The purses won’t be as big but LIV will continue if they get a TV rights Deal. It all hinges on that.

LIV on Fox gets 300k viewers. Pretending like a tv rights package is coming there way is pointless

Less than WNBA. In line with pickleball

WNBA averaged 1.2 million viewers on ABC last year

They wouldn’t even have to. The top guys will get sponsor exemptions and make enough to stay. If they went to q school they would go on Korn ferry and take turns winning until they get the 3 win promotion.

Give them the same deal they gave Brooks.

And the crazy part is that this was far from PIF’s worst idea. They have at least 10x LIVs losses tied up “The Line” and the City of Neom debacle

quote:

In October 2017, a 32-year-old Saudi Crown Prince stood before a global audience in Riyadh and announced what he called the most ambitious development project in human history. NEOM — the name combining the Greek word for “new” with the Arabic word for “future” — would be a $500 billion city built from scratch in the desert of northwestern Saudi Arabia. It would run entirely on renewable energy. It would have no roads, no cars, flying taxis and robot servants. At its heart would be The Line — a 170-kilometre linear city, 200 metres wide, 500 metres tall, stretching across desert and mountains to the Red Sea, housing 9 million people with a 20-minute commute guaranteed for every resident.

The LIV business plan probably sounded pretty solid after this.

LIV has hundreds of millions of dollars in debt they have to cover in terms of already agreed upon player contracts and hundreds of millions of dollars they would have to pay to keep some players. They are beyond a normal TV deal (which they won't get) helping.

The outstanding debts alone will probably force them into Bankruptcy court.

Damn you sound like you don’t know much at all.

Who do you think they owe money to?
Bryson is in the final year of his contract. Most guys have already played out their initial contract. The only “big” contracts I could possibly think of would be Rahm and/or Hatton. Do you know the terms of their contracts?
