What would be your proposal to make it work?

Question addressed to everyone.

Move all the select schools up one class to account for the inherent advantage they have in controlling their enrollment.

Make selects and no selects labor under the same transfer and domicile rules.

And then move selects back down one class for the inherent disadvantage of actually having to balance a budget to stay open. I love how people talk about privates having this endless supply of money. Who is supplying this money for scholarships?

The average cost per public school student for Louisiana is just north of $11k, the average cost of tuition in the state is just over $8k. The difference in the education and athletics at the majority of these schools is faculty and parents giving a frick.

I have no problem with that. It would force the other 3A schools to get better

I think a multiplier would work better than just moving them all up a class. There are some tiny 2A schools that really shouldn't be competing with some of the larger 3A schools.

Somewhere between a 1.25 or 1.3 multiplier would probably make things a lot more equitable.

I don't have a problem with moving up MORE than one class.

I didn't say anything about scholarships or the selects having more money. The point is that they control which students and how many students enroll in the school, which gives them a distinct advantage. That is really the root of the whole problem. Scholarships just make it easier to do.

I believe I heard that a couple of states use 1.5. I think 1.3 has been proposed and was shot down by the principals.

I think some sort of "performance multiplier" could work, but it would almost have to be by sport, which I'm not sure would gain much support. But the metric would basically force teams to move up in class based on continued success in a specific sport. You could create a 6th class in football to help with this.

I think it could alleviate the problem with 2A & 3A schools being dominated by one or two programs yearly.

Not surprising they would vote it down, they're mostly idiots.

wouldn't solve what caused the split.... the split was caused by...

1. 4a and 5a schools not wanting any more of JC and ECA and creating, selling and getting play in class passed...

2. 1a, 2a, and 3a schools felt like they were shite on for 10 years of having to deal with above mentioned schools(public and yes private).

all other things being equal 1.3 sounds good on paper but in reality does little.... 3 of the largest enrollment schools in the state are pretty much non factors athletically...... enrollment is a poor indicator

Keep moving teams up if they dominate. Move on from the past. Curtis is now in 5A where they belong.

Move somebody down if they can’t compete.

Basically what USSSA does

idk if it's cause or effect, but pretty much all the public schools in NW LA have gotten a little bit better... teams like Woodlawn, Northwood, Captain Shreve...

Lost in Baseball State Championship to Curtis many years ago. We were a rural, public school with a bunch of us who played together since we were 5 and a good ball club but couldn’t really match Curtis with their ability to recruit the best athletes around NOLA.

If this was in '97, I was on that Curtis team and can absolutely guarantee there were no recruits on that team.
