It's everywhere around here, it's pretty normal. You see it in mist every bar you go into, I didn't really focus on it. But I was speaking my shitty Spanish and people mostly understood me and didn't seem offended. But when I heard the speaking to each other it was Basque aka euskalduna

Just had a chance to watch and that was a stage for the ages. When Pog was able to stay in the saddle and cover Jonas' attacks on the last climb I was like, oh shite, he looks good.

Jonas is lucky there weren't a few more kms of steepness or Pog could have easily been in yellow tomorrow.

Just watched it. POG so strong. So much for the narrative that vingegaard would put POG in the dust. I wanted it to be a close tour and I think we will get one.

i'm still not convinced pog is for real. he could have burned his battery out today; i think sunday will be the day we see what's up. next mtn stage and is pog recovered or is he really in better shape than he let on?

either way, vinny's team got to see pog's cards today so they can now plan accordingly.

I was laughed at yesterday by suggesting Pog was the one playing mind games this time. I think he’s for real.
This is gonna be something.

Basque flag isn’t a separatist flag. It is the official flag of the Basque Country.

No different than a state flag here in the USA.

There is a difficult history but the people are Basque first and Spanish second.

Pog can challenge Van Aert on a classic or sprint and can out climb everyone in the world. He’s as complete an all around rider can be.

I do think Jumbo can wear him down though and the wrist looked to be bothering him on the descend today.

Pog caught Vingegaard slipping and he couldn't mark. I blame Jumbo's team car (without access to their commo). Everyone and their sister knows Pog feists on at the end of mountain top climbs if the road tilts down any. It is his MO and he has done it lots of times whittling away at the time difference and destroying the mental game of his rival.

The greatest GT riders are able to process all this when they are on the limit. IMO if you keep your mind focused on the chess match your legs don't hurt as much and your lungs don't burn as much (they do you just don't realize it). Reduce the bandwidth for the suffering. I am not suggesting I have a mental game better than Jonas by any means but he got played pulling for his main (if not only) GC rival then let Pog jump when a deaf dumb and blind kid knew that was where Pog would jump if he could.

I wonder if Jonas saying the Tour wouldn't be won by seconds will come back to haunt him rolling into Paris.

I disagree with that, the energy Pog uses up sprinting for 4 seconds etc. seems like it would Mount up over the course of 3 weeks.

That's the first time he has properly dropped Vindegaard on a climb which was something I didn't realise until yesterdays stage.

Hopefully opens up an exciting tour. I think the battle for 3rd will be very good aswell.

Today's stage is apparently scorching hot.

But it's apparently well suited for Cav. I wonder if we see the record today.

How did Vande Velde end up going from the discussion desk to the back of a motorcycle? Drew the short straw this year?

isn't he like 30 now? not sure he's got the legs anymore for a sprint win.

He won 4 stages 2 years ago at 36. He has also won a GT sprint stage this year and it was the last stage of the Giro. While the giro isn’t the tour in terms of sprint quality it is still impressive. He def has the legs this year to take another sprint but he doesn’t have the lead out he had in 2021 so it will be way more difficult. If not for the crash in 2017 with Sagan, Mark would have broken this record a while ago.

Too add he has already scored a 6th and a 5th in the two sprints stages we have had. So he is definitely there or thereabouts and if things go right he will win a stage. They just showed an interview with Mark. Man does he sound relaxed and confident.

No way Cav is going to be able to hang with Jasper and MVDP, unless they gift him one.
