Yep. Jasper is def the strongest. Mark is there though. He can absolutely win a stage
Found this while reading up on today's finish:
quote:
“Unfortunately, I had a problem with my gears when I was sprinting,” Cavendish said. “I went from the 11 [sprocket] to the 12 and had to sit down and go back to the 11. It was pretty devastating there, actually. It wasn’t good. I guess it’s not meant to be.”
He's gonna do it. 14 stages left, there will be daylight. A lot of people are writing that Jasper had yet another dangerous maneuver on the final sprint, almost took out Bini

Yeah Cav didn't look bad today. He still has it in him to win a stage.

I did a 20mi ride over lunch today, and I'm looking at Strava and seeing my top speed (on a downhill while pedaling highest gear possible) I only reached 35.5mph. It's amazing that on flat roads they're sprinting up to (what I saw on this particular stage) 42mph. Bananas he still has that kind of power at 38 years old

Agreed it doesn't stand out enough among the dark jerseys

Another 6 inches to the right and it would have been dangerous, stopped pretty much all of his momentum for sure. I backed him to win the stage so particularly annoyed by it

I heard Hincappie say that as Jasper was in the lead out of he and Bini, so he had the right to Cav’s wheel. Too bad Bini

Wat.
70 mph?!
Just starting back after going hard 4-5 years ago but even at my peak back then 40 mph was terrifying.

Yeah I hit 40mph on a downhill one time and that was plenty enough for me, probably won't do that ever again

I was racing alot here in TN and at 175 (my lowest weight) i could never stay with the group on the inevitable climb that marked almost every race. My only hope was to catch back up on the downhill so 55mph was common. You get used to the speed and just trust your equipment but i don't think I'm that reckless anymore.
It's safer than it sounds since TN has some big mountains with nice straight wide roads generally closed to traffic where you can build up a head of steam; particularly if you're tucked and in front of the saddle.
Natchez Trace has a couple long straight descents near Nashville where you can easily hit 50 without trying and there's almost never any traffic so it's about as safe as you can find.
Eta i need to dust off and post some of my old Strava data files. Good stuff.

New Chris Horner video just showed up....want to see what he says about the sprint, Cav, was Girmay wronged, etc.
Posted on 7/7/23 at 9:14 pm to POTUS2024
Horner says he would have punished Philipsen and thus the stage would have gone to Cav. I agree. Girmay got hosed there.

Stage 8 underway. Breakaway day?

Cav broken collarbone, out of the Tour.
What a terrible ending

Sad day. His final. The Manx Missile is derailed

Absolutely devastated for Mark. Couldn’t think of a worse way for a legend’s career to be ended.
Posted on 7/8/23 at 9:13 am to crazyLSUstudent
He has to come back next year somehow. This would be an awful way to end it.
Posted on 7/8/23 at 9:24 am to POTUS2024
When did he break it, on a fall today or sometime else?
