This has turned into a "Is Shaq a top 5 player" instead of saying anything about Duncan.

Duncan is the best at his position all time-I don't think many would argue that. He has the hardware and the longevity of greatness.

The argument against him is that he may not have been the best player on his team for a couple of those titles, but he has consistently been a 20/10 type guy for like 15 years. (his PPG have dropped the last few years but so have his minutes played b/c they are resting him up for playoff runs, he gets 15 points in 30 minutes still).

The other knock against him is he never proclaims himself to be great. No one talks about him being "the best" or "no one can guard him" but no one has been able to stop him in 20 years. I have Duncan higher on my list than probably almost anyone else. I think he's in the 5-7 range all time

I laugh at the people who don't rank Shaq in the top 5. He's probably the most dominating player of all time. I'd put his peak right below Jordans.

I agree.

Shaq at his peak was just absolutely unstoppable. He was bigger and stronger than everyone and right when you thought he was about to posterize you with some absurd dunk, he'd make a gorgeous over the shoulder no-look pass to a teammate streaking to the basket.

I am leaving this thread because I get heated about Shaq doubters

No, he won 0 without Shaq, then 2 when they acquired Pau Gasol.

Kareem could score better, but thats all he's got on Shaq.

Well, you are forgetting about rebounding, passing, blocks, and defense

You are severely underrating Kareem

No he wouldn't. Have you ever seen footage of Bill Russell playing?

I can't in good conscience put Shaq above Olajuwon. Olajuwon was as nearly dominant defensively as Shaq was offensively and Olajuwon's offense > Shaqs D.

:rotflmao:

What if I told you that before Shaqs prime they faced off in a finals series in which shaq had more rebounds blocks and assists than Hakeem and averaged 28 ppg?

Shaq FT and lack of shooting range is what makes me not put him in tiop 5 centers.

The reason I listed Wilt, Kareem, and Mikan were they changed the rules of the game for these guys, so they would not dominate as much.

You don't put Shaq in the top 5 because of FT shooting yet you put Wilt there? Wilt was an even worse FT shooter than Shaq...

What if I told you Shaq's team lost every one of those games.

People can cherry pick all they want, but as stated, Hakeem was the better defender and it's not close. Shaq was more dominant inside offensively. Hakeem was better outside the paint. Shaq played with better coaches.

You can do this all day

I would tell you that head to head matchups aint that important especially when Shaqs team got swept 4-0. Shaq put up meaningless numbers, Dream's lead his team to back to back titles.

You could make arguments for both being Top 5 but I don't know if they definitely are.

1) MJ

2 - 9 are all so close it's hard to rank them IMO. You can go with any order of these players: Magic, Bird, Kobe, Shaq, Duncan, Russell, Wilt, Kareem

10) LeBron

Key word there-team. The rockets were better. Shaq taking everything into account dominated as much individually or more than Hakeem did. This was before he continued to refine his game ~5 years before his prime. The rockets had robert horry on that team. They were destined to win.

Hakeem was better outside the paint

Why does this matter? The biggest problem in todays game is bigs refusing to admit they are bigs and dominating down low. Hakeem never averaged over 27.8 ppg. Shaq beat that number in 5 seasons. As far as opening up the team offensively Shaq had 4 titles Dream had 2.

no sense in continuing the debate when you post stuff like this. Let me guess, Houston lost to Porltand because peej picked Houston. gtfo

Did I say the only reason I put Wilt ahead of Shaq was FT shooting?

As I mentioned earlier they changed the rules of the game due to Wilt. They never did this for Shaq.

Just as they changed the rules of the game for MJ, Mikan, and Kareem.

It was a joke dumbass. The Magics first playoff series win in franchise history was the first round of that playoffs. The Rockets were the defending champions. They had experience poise and were the better team.

That's the only reason you gave for leaving Shaq out.
