No. Top 10 for sure though. Shaq isn't the best center either. Wilt dominated more than any other player. Kareem dominated and had a long career.

I am not sure that Shaq is a top 5 all time player

I think you can even make a somewhat legit argument that he wasnt top 5 Center of all time. You can not play guys from different eras against each other...

But a list that includes in any order Wilt, Kareem, Olajuwon, Mikan, and Russell is hard to argue against.

Imagine Shaq in either era.

What are you basing this on? If you are talking about career, then yeah but in terms of who the better basketball player was in their prime, Shaq is the best of the group.

Think about the era. The NBA today isn't even recognizable by comparison.

For some reason it's hard for people to do this, but does anyone here actually believe Bill Russell could guard Shaq?

I laugh at the people who don't rank Shaq in the top 5. He's probably the most dominating player of all time. I'd put his peak right below Jordans.

But you cant as Shaq would have not been same player as things evolved. I think people take a person insert him in thinking it would be the same, when it wouldnt.

Shaq FT and lack of shooting range is what makes me not put him in tiop 5 centers.

The reason I listed Wilt, Kareem, and Mikan were they changed the rules of the game for these guys, so they would not dominate as much.

Exactly. Even then Shaq was a much more efficient scorer. Wilt just shot a shite ton of shots. Also everyone give shaq shite for his poor free throw shooting but no one ever say anything about wilt and he has a worse career percentage.

Shaq would've been better than both in their eras.

Kareem could score better, but thats all he's got on Shaq.

Shaq played in an era with other dominant centers and he was still ridiculously dominant. 3 Finals MVPs in a row. They invented the hack-a-shaq to attempt to slow him down. He was just unstoppable. His stat lines in the playoffs for the LAkers were just outrageous for the center heavy era of the NBA.

shaq and Duncan are not the third and fifth best players of all time

And Shaq played within those rules his entire career instead of a portion of it...and still dominated.

Wilt was a TERRIBLE shooter too. People seem to forget that. And the average height of his opponent had to be 6 inches shorter than Shaq's.

what does that even mean? His size and brute strength would haven't gone away. He would have absolutely mauled the NBA during those years when they had no other big men.

Wilt and Russell were terrible foul shooters too.

That's not the point. The question is who was better, not who did better against their competition. Line Kareem at his best up against Shaq and tell me honestly that you'd take Kareem. You can't.

The frick are you talking about? Kobe was nothing those first couple of titles. That was all Shaq. Period.

And who uses that against Kobe? He won 2 without Shaq...
