That's just insane.
It was a joke, but he probably does believe that

You have to take into account the era and how they influenced the game.
Russell was dominant in a watered down type of NBA, but also changed the way a center could impact a game.
I don't think Shaq had as great an impact...and his was big.

No, he didn't.

Were were Hakeem & the rockets the years jordan actually showed up for training camp?
He was great no doubt. Better than shaq? Lol

Shaw in playoffs for their title runs:
2000: 5.4 ppg, 3 apg
2001: 4.4 ppg, 2.7 apg
2002: 2.9 ppg, 1.6 apg
KILLED IT

And while Shaq's numbers on offense are slightly better, it's not like they were worlds better. And Hakeem was more versatile. He could score inside and also hit the mid-range jumper.
I don't know who is better overall, but to act like it's silly that somebody would have Hakeem over Shaq is stupid.

He won two without Shaq.
Yeah, and he needed two 7 footers instead of one.

Meh, these lists are so hard to do. Like pretty much the most consistent top 5 results are as follows:
MJ
Wilt
Russell
Bird
Magic
MJ
Wilt
Russell
Bird
Magic

Shaq' championship resume' speaks for itself.
I'm not arguing that he was a better shot blocker

Kobe was nothing those first couple of titles. That was all Shaq. Period.

yeah, I admit to exaggerating, but Shaq was the main cog to that machine. He just took over in the playoffs all 3 years. His constant double teams helped Kobe get some open looks.

Duncan is the best at his position of all time. Rank that wherever you want

Shaq had slightly better offensive stats while Hakeem had vastly better defensive stats.
And the championship argument is stupid. Basketball is a team game.

Yes, basketball is a team game. But no, it's not a stupid argument. It is a factor that one should include when talking about the greatness of a player. They play to win games and win rings, not fill up a stat sheet.
If Karl Malone won a couple of titles, he would undoubtedly be a unanimous Top 10 player of all time, maybe Top 5. He was a 14 time all star, 2 time MVP, and 1st team all NBA eleven times!!! Second most points in NBA history. Yet I am the first to even mention him in this thread littered with different top 10 lists.
On the other end of the spectrum, Robert Horry has 7 titles and is often used by LeBron fans to dismiss the rings argument during GOAT discussions. Well no shite, Horry was an average player on a lot of great teams.
There is a happy medium where both stats and rings should be considered.

Hard to put Shaq in front of Olajuwon because Shaq would either be taken out of a game at crunch time or they wouldn't give him the ball at crunch time.

I would say top 5 at position. But hard to say top 5 overall.

That was mostly Kobe breaking down the defense more so than what Shaq did. Any Center in the league would have thrown that one down. Plus that game was pretty much over at that point.
