I was thinking, Deion is widely considered the greatest cornerback of all time.

Has any other player of that caliber ever tried coaching?

Larry Bird is the only one that comes to mind for me coaching the Pacers

Is Deion being the GOAT CB the same as Jordan being the GOAT basketball player?

He did. Baseball has a ton of former Allstar coaches.

Football I would say Spurrier since he won a Heisman and a national championship coaching

You gave one better option in your post.

Bird > Deion.

Spurrier wasn’t the best player to become a coach, and I doubt he’s the best coach that was a former player. However, winning a heisman as a player, and then coaching a heisman winner to a national title, is pretty damn special.

Magic Johnson is a top 5 all time Basketball player.

He is higher than Deion.

I'm not sure Deion is top 15 of all time NFL players.

Wayne Gretzky is probably the only consensus greatest player of all time in his sport to coach.

The GOAT of GOATs was a coach, yet you select someone who might have been the best at his position?

No he isn’t. Considering that he has to compete with Kareem, Wilt, LeBron, Shaq, Kobe and Jerry West, he may not even be a top 5 Laker of all time.

Bart Starr was one of the preeminent QBs of his day who became a coach after his playing days ended. Mike Ditka changed the way the TE was used.

Pete Rose and Ted Williams in baseball.

Larry Bird coached the Pacers to the 2000 NBA Finals.

Phil Jackson wasn’t a top player by any means but won two titles and won eleven as a head coach.

Steve Spurrier won a Heisman and coached Florida to a national title.

Dabo Swinney was a member of the 1992 Alabama national title team and coached Clemson to two national titles.

Steve Kerr was an integral roll in three Bulls championships as a player and coached GSW to four NBA titles.

I’m sure there are more examples out there.
