Guilt is a valuable commodity vastly underutilized in today's society.
The original bowls were civic graft dressed up in bunting and pom-poms. Most of the later ones are simple ESPN greed. Many of college footballs current problems can be traced long term to the development stunting corruption of the "bowl system".

After 3 years of religious studies I left school and enlisted in the Navy. After several years of accumulating credits through the Navy Campus program I was awarded a Bachelor of science degree with dual majors in Philosophy and Nuclear Technology.
My wife calls it the Dr Strangelove degree. Simply having A degree got me a nice job post USN administering Quality Control in the pet food industry, but it mostly serves as a lead in to sea stories.
