re: I feel like the "pro players in college" issue doesn't need to be so dramatic

Why do you laugh? It’s been the rules forever and doesn’t constitute a monopoly. The only reason the ‘22 guys have any leg to stand on is that the NCAA is selectively applying the 5 for 5 ruling to some of their class and holding others to the old rules.

LSU fans downplaying this issue are disgusting.

LOL. Want to know how many rules were created to shutdown loopholes that Saban tried to exploit? Quite a few because people bitched about it all the time.
LSU isn’t some special victim here as much as yall want to be.

How many other rules have changed in the last 5 or so years that had previously been "rules forever" and why do you think this one will be different?

That’s what they’re pushing for, to be declared a pro league or leagues. Once the courts legally declare that the big conferences can break away. All the back and forth chaos is theatre.

these are players who have been drafted by a pro team
Both of the guys going to LSU were undrafted free agents.
It's mostly a one-time thing, because rules will be in place to prevent it from happening again.
The NCAA really deserves 100% of the blame here.

I know people love to moan about how the college game is being ruined, but I don't feel this has to be that big of an issue, unless it's just the NCAA trying to flex.
And the part we overlook in "this not so big of an issue" is that rosters are capped at 105. So when these Pros show up on campus they will be taking a roster spot from some kid who had earned that roster spot, worked out with the team all summer went to fall camp, etc. It's pretty shitty but such is life.

No they don't. The athletes who don't realize its time to go pro in something other than football and who are using courts to get their way deserve a significant part of the blame.

virginia started two 7th year players, two 6th year players, and a 5th year guy on their O line yesterday.
I agree this is BS and they shouldn't be eligible either but which one of these players has entered the draft, signed a contract with an NFL Franchise, attended a NFL training camp, played in games for an NFL team, etc.
You are overlooking the guys that started for UVA yesterday are not former professional athletes.
In before the BS argument that they had no choice because of the timing of the rules.

I agree and add to that the fact that this is only a one year thing, I don't get why everyone is losing their minds.
All it takes is one person filing a lawsuit.
Who are you to tell these businesses who they can and can’t hire?

they want to take advantage of it and get back to college. I feel it could be pretty cut and dry, as long as they haven't played a regular season game
Does anyone on here understand how Professional sports work?
Whether or not he was drafted, he signed a professional contract as an undrafted free agent and received payment and insurance benefits in the cause of injury or illness the moment he signed the dotted line. He was under contractual agreement to report to OTA’s and off-season professional strength and conditioning programs under supervision and at the facilities owned and operated by a professional football team.

You know how many guys spend their entire professional careers, years, on IR’s and practice squads and never see the field on Sundays?

Well, that seems like a pretty dumb idea.

I'd guess close to 0. Can you provide 3 examples?

You're correct. They are current professional athletes, just like every D1 starting player will be this year.

Why is the argument BS? The timing meant they were told they had no remaining eligibility, so they had to decide to enter the NFL draft if they wanted to continue to play. Then the NCAA changed the rule after the deadline to enter the draft. The answer to their argument might end up being "tough cookie, life isn't fair," but that doesn't make their argument BS.

It's going to open up a huge can of worms. CFB has already been screwed up royally. This is just next level of stupidity. They'll be lawsuit after lawsuit of players who failed to make an NFL roster. Anyone with have a functioning brain knows that this will not be a one time thing.

We aren't playing victim just defense. Everyone blaming us when there are near 20 current lawsuits and more teams than that doing the same thing. Why are yall so obsessed with us? Seems to me the ones bitching about our foresight are the ones portraying victims.
The large majority of LSU fans dont agree with it fundamentally but we also dont agree that Bedaiko played 5 games for Bama 3 years into his g league career(what were their penalties again) or that Trinidad Chambliss is SEC eligible while concurrently NCAA inelgible. Where's the outrage for those 2 schools? Kentucky? Texas? Its called fans choosing a villain that is outside the mirror they're afraid to look into.
The only ruling that is absolutely certain in all of these cases is NCAA ineligibility. Any discussion beyond that fact is moot and inconsequential. You cant pick and choose which NCAA ineligible players can play and which can't. It must be treated uniformly across the landscape. Punishments included. With these the SEC is about to be extremely cash fluid with all the forfeited profit shares from LSU, Texas, Bama, Kentucky and Ole Miss.

As of now, it's just a 1-year issue. I'm fearful that it will set a precedent and won't remain as that.
There's a guy somewhere who's been in the NFL a few years, bouncing around from team to team, ready to sue because he only played 3 or 4 years in college.
