Anyone heard any rumblings yet?
Fall football cannot surive many more delays. I would like to see them cleared to practice in pads soon.

Dragging phase 2 into mid September doesn’t bode well.

The LHSAA royally screwed those up by trying to please everybody. The original guidelines from the LHSAA tied athletics to the state’s phases - and football could not begin until the conclusion of phase 3 (or as Bonine randomly made up - phase 4)
Then they set a playing date of October 9th untethered to the state’s phases while still keeping the original guideline tied to the state’s phases. Nevermind, that the LHSAA has no control over the phases making the October 9th date a literal shot in the dark.
Then Bonine goes on the radio and says he may modify some of the Phase 3 restrictions because we are only a few weeks away from the opening date. Except that he would force the member schools to lose all their legal protections if he does this.
And there hasn’t been any communication to the schools on any of this for over a month.

This will be the final nail in the Select/Non-Select alliance if the LHSAA cannot get the boys on the field soon.
JBE is treating these Phases a political action. He could have said the LHSAA can start easing restrictions like the coaches want be he didn't. Bonine isn't doing much to help his case either.
If the kids are in school, they can play sports. Simple as that.

I don’t discount the notion that the LHSAA has to follow the governor’s orders. In fact, it a perfectly acceptable, although not desirable, answer.
The problem is that the LHSAA is all over the map on guidelines and has given false hope to schools. Not to mention giving coaches a schedule to go back to work that is, frankly, a pipe dream.

I think the bigger issue is the guidelines. Let them practice, I mean really practice. They are in helemts at best these days and it's hard for a DB to learn to cover a WR from 6 feet away. It doesn't help the QB or WR throwing to an open man.
Every state around us is playing football. Heck even Florida starts in a couple of weeks. Not Louisiana and smacking "do as I say, not as I do" JBE.

How/Why does this make them lose their legal protections?
If they don't play the LPHSAA will be up and ready to go for 21 Season.

Louisiana passed a law in June limiting liability for Covid for schools and school boards. BESE and Louisiana department of Education set the guidelines, not the LHSAA. The law states if they break the guidelines, they assume liability. No one is going to take that liability. So blame the LHSAA all you want, but it really isn’t their fault.

The LHSAA needs to step up and say start practicing, because the October day we gave yall is not changing. If they don't do this and continue to fall in line with JBE then those kids will suffer due to political reasons.
This is why that won’t happen.
Article explains why the LHSAA isn’t in control.
quote:
Even though the LHSAA is a private organization, Legislative Act 9, signed into law in June, blurs the lines. The purpose for Act 9 was to limit legal liability that public and private schools could face because of COVID-19. Before Act 9 passed, other COVID-19 items were attached to it — including health and safety guidelines and group numbers for each phase put together by the Board of Elementary and Secondary Education and the Louisiana Department of Education. Any group that chooses not to follow this law and its phased guidelines, including the LHSAA and its schools, would assume COVID-19 liability.
