Several states in our region are starting high school football on time. Others have pushed the schedule back a few weeks. LHSAA says no football (and some other sports) until phase 4. If I’m not mistaken, phase 4 includes achievement of a vaccine. If parents are willing to let their kids participate, let them play. I feel terribly for current seniors who will have to give up that experience.

I also see that some independent teams are starting to form. There was a Facebook page advertising the Northshore Vultures on my feed this morning.

I agree, I don’t see what’s wrong with letting it be a personally choice.

Heaven forbid people are accountable for their own decisions

Unless I missed it, phase 4 does not require a vaccine

Based on the department of health

quote:

Phase Four: Safe in a Herd

Phase Four will occur with a vaccine or widespread immunity in the population. It will largely resemble pre-COVID-19 life, although some restrictions may remain necessary.

I agree there should be HS football this fall, but What is delaying the season a few weeks really going to accomplish. We been at this for six months now. We know there aren't going to be any major strides made in the span of a couple weeks.

nothing

I also think players in a season would be monitored more closely and ultimately be "safer" than they would left to do their own thing, especially at the college level where they can micromanage their lives to keep them safe. If they're out and about, they're far more likely to get sick than if they're in a regimented program

translation: phase 4 may never happen.

I thought the LHSAA clarified and said "Phase 4" was something they created themselves and had something to do with so many straight weeks for declining cases in Phase 3. Looking for the article now.

Edited: Here it is LINK

phase 4 will happen eventually due to herd immunity, but it won't happen before football season has come and gone. I don't think a vaccine for COVID-19 will ever happen. IIRC there has never been a vaccine for any coronavirus, which includes the common cold. Not sure why people are counting on one now. I believe it's something we're just going to have to learn to live with and stop living in fear.

Yes. They messed up by calling their stages "phases", which predictably confused everyone.

Don't agree. With more and more testing, we were going to have more and more positive tests. The death rate has been pretty stagnant (and low) for almost 2 months. This has less to do with us doing what was asked and more to do with an election that's going to happen in November.

There has been no final decision on football yet. The LHSAA is looking at contingency plans, which they absolutely should be doing. Yes some states are "planning" on starting in the Fall (do they have a Plan B, or will they just cancel if it does not happen) but other states and even college conferences are pushing it back to the Spring. Whatever decision the LHSAA makes there will be people unhappy that is for sure.

Huh?

Our two border states (one of which takes HS football a lot more seriously than us) have already announced that they are delaying the start.

Bro... The LHSAA cannot go outside of what the governor's mandates allow.... and what school systems allow. phase 4 for the LHSAA meant the end of phase 3.... our governor's mandates are dramatically more restrictive than those other states. maybe the legislature will rise up and quell him.

also if you look at the mayor of NOs restrictions... no games could be played at any municipal field in orleans parish right now...

Nope. Phase 4 is a myth and doesnt exist. We need to get out of Phase 3 for football.

The LHSAA is responding to the conditions on the ground, and the restrictions made by government agencies.

Look at the growing number of college conferences that won't play any sports at all this fall.

Bonine has no fricking clue what he's doing.

Phase four for the LHSAA isnt the same as phase four for the public. That's what people are getting confused. Its basically phase three
