The fact the Sugar is not used for one of the massive games every year is extremely stupid. It is the best set up venue for these types of events with a dome stadium in walking distance of the hotels, bars, and restaurants.

A quick Google search shows the sugar bowl has not been on New Year's Day 16 out of the last 20 years. Probably wasn't them creating push back.

they demanded to have an unopposed time slot every single NYD.

sorry but the Sugar is just as culpable as the Rose in this horseshite

Advertisers hate that actually.

I'm an old, family man now, and I can not work at all that day or leave when I want, I got no problem with it.

All I'm saying is they were NOT on NYD very regularly in the last 20 years. I don't see why they would be up in arms to play on the 2nd this year.

Last year's setup was ideal. This year's setup is awful. If UA weren't playing, then I wouldn't be making any special plans to watch the games and would do normal NYE stuff.

The overrated Rose Bowl screwed up a perfectly good format.

i mean i'd rather watch it on new years day.

somebody asked me today what time Auburn played tomorrow and I told them around noon? Guy laughed and asked why they play in the middle of the week in the middle of the day.

told the guy they have so many bowls they have to fit it in somewhere?

i think its odd they are doing the Clemson-Oklahoma game in the mid-to-late afternoon time slate. I'll miss probably the 1st half because of work... oh well.

tough titties I guess.

A lot of us are in the same boat. Won't be able to leave work until 4ish and will miss a lot of that game.

What I don't get is the Rose Bowl will play on Jan 2nd when the NFL plays on the 1st but they won't budge for the College Football Playoff? Makes no sense.

well, if they didn't have so many bowl games there wouldn't be such a log jam.

but I know its not a cool thing to bash the number of bowl games here cause its likely to ruffle a few feathers.

we'll just live with it.

some of these bowl games just don't have any appeal to me.

watching UNC-Baylor today was super boring... play some defense guys.

please?

I'll watch them both. NYE is no big deal for me. Drunks and fireworks suck.

As a college football fan, I have an interest in watching the playoff games. As someone whos team isn't in the playoff games, I'd rather do something else with my NYE.

I agree but there's no going back, but the amount of bowls still doesn't mean they couldn't reshuffle the times for the New Year's Six.

I'm all for respecting tradition. The Rose Bowl is a big part of UA's tradition...but the Rose Bowl's time has passed and it's "lore" isn't nearly worth restructuring the entire playoff around it.

My first preference would be to split them between New Year's Eve and New Year's Day. It's just so hard to commit 7ish hours to just watching football.

My second preference would be to have them on New Year's Day. My wife likes to go out for dinner on New Year's Eve and then watch that damn ball drop in Times Square. If the Horns aren't playing, I really don't have a chance.

I don't mind it, especially living in Pacific time zone and getting 1pm and 5pm start times.

Watching 9am games on Saturdays during the regular season still throws me off though.

Weren't they on NYD last year? Why move it? NYD is perfect as far as tradition and viewership potential.

Hell, the Orange Bowl starts at 1:00 PM Pacific time. Plenty of salaried people work at least a portion of NYE. Why do this?

should have put them on Jan 2nd if NYD was such an issue.

ESPN wanted to do that but was rebuffed. Have no idea why the powers behind the playoff would have a problem with that.

I have NYE off, so I don't care. I'm also old and I don't go out on New Years anymore. Besides, even when I did, I always thought it was the worst night of the year to go out, as even my regular bars were charging ridiculous covers and were super crowded. Oh, and the cops were out in force.

New Years Eve sucks. I'm glad to be home watching football.
