Lame, but I'm sure they did the cost/benefit and figured even "just" a KD/Belmont winner would bring in a boat load of cash

For anyone that’s familiar with horse racing, I have a question.

A lot of the reports said that Golden Tempo was known for always finishing second to last and last in most of its races…..

If that’s the case, how did they qualify that horse for the most prominent race in the country?

I don’t know where those reports are coming from, because before the Derby he had raced only 4 times. He won twice, and finished third in the other two races.

Now we have horses/trainers "opting out" of the Triple Crown.

That being said, Golden Tempo was 4 whole seconds off the Derby record. He is nothing special overall but that finish was absolutely amazing.

If you go back and watch Secretariat he ran a similar Derby but also broke the record by 2 seconds.

I would blame this opt out on the chick trainer but I dont believe she is the first to do this.

GT was know for always STARTING dead last and finishing strong. Not finishing... He went off as a middle favorite odds like 23:1. If he was always last he would not be in the Derby and he would be a 99:1.
