If you would've told the average USMNT fan two weeks ago we'd be facing the Dutch in the knockout round they would've taken that deal all day long

I don’t know enough about soccer but weren’t the US expected to finish second in their group and Netherlands the heavy favorite in group A? Wasn’t this the expectation, not a surprise?

The US is like 2011 LSU, great D but can't score. I don't know how we win with no offense.

Yes

Soccer is a crapshoot

If they played 4 times US would probably win 1

Considering the Dutch have the flu spread in their camp, U.S. could take it.

Those of you casual fans who hate diving (flopping) in soccer are gonna hate tomorrow because the Dutch love to dive almost as much as Brazilians.

Germany did it in 1940. It can be done.

do we win if we tie? do we lose if we tie? would they even break a tie?

Extra time and then shoot out if necessary

Same with everyone else.

Lowest scoring World Cup was in 1990 at 2.21 goals per game.

This World Cup is at 2.34 goals per game.

The problem will be that the Dutch have an elite defensive line, and we haven’t exactly been lighting up the scoreboard.

Combine that with how tired we get in the last 20 minutes of matches, and we’ve got a tough test. Can’t go to extra time. We need to get a first half lead, keep the full pressure up to about the 75th minute, then fight like hell to hang on with weary legs. Which is a fairly narrow path, meaning we rightfully are significant underdogs.

But it can happen. Feel free to start hoping!

England's first match probably skews that number a bit. This year might be lower than 1990 if not for it.

I think it's about time Tim Weah gives us one.

Weah has scored 50% of our goals at the WC, and he'd have 66% if he wasn't 6 inches offside against Iran.

No, unless dutch come in and think game is a walk over and play horribly.

Usa tied a bad Wales team, barely beat a shitty Iran, and was gifted a draw by England.

This would be an upset if Dutch lose. And don't listen to soccer boards tools, they don't kno Jack shite about the sport, they think they do and look like fools in every thread posted on there

USA could win 0-0 on penalty kicks. How exciting.

Yeah, they certainly are no longer the " Clockwork Orange" of years past where they were very efficient .

Won’t be a problem during the shootout.
