No idea on the numbers but I actually did see a video of Wilt blocking a shot and his hand looked like it was level with the top of the backboard

Are you literally retarded?

Let's say he started fricking at 15 and his "stat" came out when he was 60. 20k women over 45 years is 444 different women per year. That's between 1-1.5 different women every.single.day. for 45 fricking years. Use just a shred of common Sense.

A one off bench of 500? Sure it’s possible he did, wouldn’t put favorable odds on it though.

The rest? Ehh whatever. Probably got close enough to the numbers.

I don’t really get this argument just like those saying Babe Ruth was only great because of the competition. Yes Wilt was way taller, stronger and faster than everyone. But to act like he had no skill is just false. He was the best free throw shooter in the league at one time despite all those white dudes and you know them fellas were some set shooting free throw making fools.
He wasn’t the tallest person on earth or close to it. Should there have been a height limit? Nobody close to his height at that time was as athletic and smooth as Wilt. He was the best. Even if it was only because of his size. He was the best.

The 20k women thing appears incredibly far-fetched and I think it’s been since debunked just the media didn’t make a big deal about it compared to their reaction to his claim and therefore people continue to peddle the myth

Wilt said it was a throwaway line he put in his book.

Some have taken it further.

His H.S. friends said he never had a GF in H.S. but Wilt's 20,000 would mean he was having sex everyday with different women since age 15 until his death.

His teammates in the Pros said he wasn't some Playboy and they rarely saw him with tons of women.

And then there are some like Bill Simmons who says that Wilt was an overcompensating closeted gay man with that claim.

If he indeed slept with that many women and never had children, that would far surpass all of his other accomplishments.

Against the level of competition he played against it sure looked like all those numbers could be true.

This. Those are the only ones that are even remotely plausible. The others are complete BS.

In 1981 when Bo Jackson was a high school senior, he ran a 10.44.
In 1981, Carl Lewis was in his second year as a professional track athlete. His personal best during that same spring? 10.67.
Carl did eclipse that later in the summer with a 10.21 but he was, like I said, a professional track athlete.

I was just saying if he had concentrated on track only, yes, it’s probably safe to say he could have been a world class sprinter.

Is it really that laughable?

I was just googling the time frame on that. Id heard the myth demolished before. Its a dumb arse sounding lie to begin with. Idgaf if he was one generation removed from the jungle. Nobody in history has that stat

Should've just said he had a 19in crank. Nobody wouldve even questioned that

What the hell are you talking about? Carl ran 10.00 in May of 1981 at age 19 in Dallas. As an 18 year old in 1980 he ran 10.21 into a headwind. That's almost 2/10ths faster than Bo ever ran; the gap from Bo's best of 10.39 to the time Carl ran as an 18 year old is huge.

There's nothing to suggest Bo would have been an elite track athlete in anything besides the decathlon (if he could have learned to pole vault and throw the javelin).

20k is a bit outrageous. But the guy was a massive star in the 60s and 70s. The days of free love and lots of sleeping around. Wilt could have walked into Studio 54 on a Tuesday night and mess with 50-100 women in one night. He isn't finishing with all of them of course. But close enough to count..

You are right. I got a little confused. I read the 10.21 PR as 1981 from the way it was worded. I see now it said he ran a 10.00 time in 81.

quote:

Also in 1981, Lewis became the fastest 100 m sprinter in the world. His relatively modest best from 1979 (10.67 s) improved to a world-class 10.21 the next year.

quote:

But 1981 saw him run 10.00 s at the Southwest Conference Championships in Dallas on May 16, a time that was the third-fastest in history

But that doesn’t change my opinion.
Carl Lewis’ best 100 time in high school after training for track only was 10.67.
Bo Jackson’s best high school time was 10.44 while playing football and baseball most of the year.
Carl Lewis PR in high school was over 2 tenths slower than Bo’s was during his senior year of high school.
Bo’s natural speed was faster than Carl’s. It’s not uncommon for athletes to perform better the more they train. Carl was full time track. Bo was playing 3 different sports at that time.
