LINK

Someone claimed Wilt Chamberlain in his prime:

Had a 48 inch vertical
Ran a 4.5 40
Benched 500 lbs
Had a 6'6 high jump
Was a long jump champ
Slept with 20K women (0 kids and STDs)

The last one MIGHT have been true but I just cant see any 7 footer on Earth running a 4.5 or having a nearly 50 inch vertical. Thoughts?

500lb bench isn’t kinda hard to believe with someone with such long arms.

Having longer arms usually makes benching harder though.

That doesn’t make sense.

I don't believe the 48 inch vertical number at all. Wilt was measured at 7'1" in his bare feet. He was 7'3" with his shoes on. If he had a 48 inch vertical, his shoulders would be pretty much level with the rim. I have yet to see any verifiable photos with his shoulders being level with the rim. If there was one, it would have been published by now. At best, his head has been level with the rim which would give him a vertical of 33-35 inches which is extremely impressive for a big man but not anywhere near 48 inches.

No. Some people, for whatever reason, try to give Wilt these superhuman stats and attributes.

I don’t know why, but there is a group of people that pushes this stuff with him.

It is crazy just like Bo Jackson high jumping 6’9 when he was 6’1 235lbs.

quote:

While at McAdory High School, Jackson competed as a sprinter, hurdler, jumper, thrower and decathlete. His best 100-meter time in high school was 10.44 seconds, but he would later run a 10.39 at Auburn. He also ran the 100-yard dash in 9.54 seconds. As a hurdler, he recorded times of 7.29 seconds in the 55m hurdles and 13.81 seconds in the 110m hurdles. In decathlon, he reached 8340 points. In the jumping events, he had personal-best jumps of 2.06 meters (6 feet, 9 inches) in the high jump, 7.52 meters (24 feet, 8 inches) in the long jump and 14.85 meters (48 feet, 9 inches) in the triple jump. As a thrower, he got top-throws of 15.27 meters (50 feet, 1 inch) in the shot put and 45.44 meters (149 feet, 1 inch) in the discus throw.[19

That is just crazy. That’s is so far beyond what a human should have been able to do.

Bo could have won gold in any track or field event that he wanted if he would’ve put in the time. He did all this while still playing baseball and football.

quote:

Jackson qualified for the NCAA nationals in the 100-meter dash in his freshman and sophomore years. He considered a career in track and field, but sprinting would not gain him the financial security of the MLB or NFL, nor would he have sufficient time to train, given his other commitments. Jackson claimed he ran a 4.13 40-yard dash time at his pro day[disputed – discuss]. [20] Jackson claimed he was hand-timed by an NFL scout, but has never been verified.[21]

There is literally zero footage or audio of the 1st half of the 100 point game. The ball itself isn't even in a museum. A lot of things that happened that night are very off.
