Totally agree. Same goes for boxing. Floyd Mayweather boasts about his 50-0 record when Julio Ceasar Chavez Sr. went 89-0 before suffering his first loss.

I can remember when Roger Maris was chasing Babe Ruth's home run record in the early 60's and did manage 59 runs by their 154th game, the same number of games Ruth had hit 60 homers. It wasn't until the last game, game #162 that Maris finally hit his 61st to break the record.

I wonder just how many more runs Ruth could have hit in 8 extra games like Maris had.................

You shouldnt be eligible for any career basketball or football records if you took the extra Covid year. These guys all got an entire extra season. At minimum it should have an asterisk.

CBI and other stupid postseason tournaments are fine to stat pad, but an extra Covid year is an outlier for one tiny segment of NCAA athletes over 100 years. It is silly to include them alongside other career records.

Pistol Pete’s record nearly be broken by a generic volume scorer is a travesty in itself. The school has nothing to do with it. A guy like Chris Clemons from Campbell is an entirely different story, the guy is electric. This clown just threw up 40 shots a game for five seasons.

Pete didn’t have a 3pt line and had only 3 seasons as varsity due to NCAA rules of the time.

The world’s smallest violin is playing for this douche.

That was only worth an extra 588 points for him

Yep. Have someone go back and watch whatever tapes/video is available to see just how many 3's Pete could have been credited for and I'm betting that record goes up exponentially.

If I’m not mistaken, posters on TD have done that before and provided a rough estimate of Pistol’s new point total. I can’t recall what it was, but yes, much higher essentially putting it out of reach

I still consider there to be an asterisk next to Maris' old homerun record because of the extra games he had over Ruth.

This guy gets 5 seasons AND a three point line, couldn't do it...and STILL whines? Spokesperson for Gen Z, folks.

Dale Brown went back over the games' shot charts & came up with Pete averaging over 50+ points a game with 3 point shots being factored in. But, as noted, Davis had several missed shots in the last 4 minutes of the game & missed them all. Make just one & he has the "record". Mabe he choked, vs being cheated ?

Hell, Dale Brown did and it was like an additional 8 points per game.

But that's just tracking where he shot the ball from, without Pete having the knowledge f where it actually was on the court. Imagine all of the shots he took just inside, or just on the line where he'd have stepped back a hair and buried a three?

Closest challenger may have been Wayman Tisdale at OU back in the 80's who put up 2,661 in three season without the 3pt line.

Obviously, and that's what makes the record so special. I'm just stating that if someone came along and broke Pete's record in 4 years, the normal eligibility for collegiate athletes, I would at least acknowledge it.

Dude averaged 44.2 points per game in an era with no three point line and no shot clock. I have no idea how that’s even possible.

Also didn’t the shutdown happen right before the NCAA tournament? So players who played in 2020 got the entire 2019-2020 season plus conference tournaments, right?
Or are they calling the COVID season the 2020-2021 season with the protocols? I can’t even remember how they basketball schedules that year. Were they late starting compressed to mainly conference only too?

What a mother fricking loser.

1) You played in 60 more games/2 more years than the GOAT Pistol Pete
2) Your team was 14-19. Yall sucked arse. Make the team better and you'd be in postseason play.
3) In your career you were gifted the 3 point line. Pistol Pete was not gifted with a 3 point line.

Regardless if he ended up with more career points, Pistol Pete is and always will be the NCAA scoring champ to the sane individuals. Keep crying more son.

I think it's selfish -- and weird -- that people emailed or called the CBI to say we shouldn't be in the tournament because they didn't want me to break the record.

I think he's probably referring to a cabal of posters on the Rant.

Ultimately, the CBI decided not to give the Titans (14-19) an opportunity to pay $27,500 to play in the 16-team tournament.

Dude will play a pickup game at Rucker sponsored by Addidas and will probably claim the record and make himself a trophy.

So taking all of his advantages into account, he actually wasn't even close to Pistol Pete. What a puss

This. Pete would have been draining 3s if there was a line on the court he had to stand behind to get an extra point. Dale's assessment is as fair as it can be, but I believe it's lower than what would have been in the alternate universe.

This kid could have had a lot more at least passive sympathy from cbb fans if he just kept his complaints to himself. Now he's just a whiney kid who choked in the final game of his relatively ridiculously long career.

Has anyone added up all the points Pete scored as a freshman? I bet JV at LSU is about on par with the league Detroit Mercy was in.

38 field goal attempts per game is how.
