After reading through some tweets, I don’t think Bauer is mad at foreign substance usage, he’s mad about MLBs election to police some people and not others
It all goes back to win he cut his finger, he wasn’t allowed to use non tacky surgical grade glue on the back of his pinky (that wouldn’t even touch the ball) to reinforce his stitches.

Who are they policing with regard to pine tar (or other substance)? Who has been tossed?
Bauer has been bitching about this since a pine tar article was written that said most players and managers DGAF. He was the lone voice against, for whatever reason. Went all morally superior on the whole league...

Again, I think for him he just wants the rules to be followed. If everyone is ok with it, MLB just needs to come out and say it’s ok, instead of being the worst kept secret in baseball. I guarantee he would use it if it was allowed, just like everyone else probably already is
ETA: Now him calling out the Astros in particular is frustrating for sure. I’m not defending that by any means. But he has a valid point about the non enforcement of the rule. I just saw a video of a guy for the Angels that sprayed something on his leg when he pitched against us and went to that spot before every pitch

The weird thing is the article singled out Cole who was his teammate at UCLA. You would think that he would feel kinda bad about singling him out. However if gerrit Cole and you have issues from what I’ve seen so far the issue is probably you. Seems like a nice guy.

This is the 2nd time Bauer has called out Astros pitchers, specifically Gerrit Cole, in the last 2 weeks. Bauer's comments were the center of the Buster Olney article I posted a week ago or so.
