Think of how trivially easy it would be to rig a semi-competitive football game and get away with it from an officiating standpoint. Penalties like holding, pass interference, roughing the passer, all very subjective and very impactful calls you can make or not make all the time
Did you know around 2016 there were 2 seasons in a row where Alabama opponents didn’t get called for a single hold against Alabama’s pass rush? I believe Alabama led the country in sacks one of the seasons.

Make it make sense.

Richard Sherman called this out years ago when he said the money floating around fantasy football was nothing more than gambling and the gamblers hed their hooks into the NFL

Especially in today's game where any contact is frowned upon and deemed detrimental to player health. It would never happen, but I'd like to see fewer penalties across the board. Allow the players to get away with more and you reduce the chances of a 'shady' call.

Officiating is horrific across college football. So unless you think every crew is rigging games, your ire is misguided.

What actually need ls to happen is they need to get rid of geriatrics that can’t keep up. And they actually need to hold the officials accountable instead of publicly going to bat for them when they’re clearly awful and not let them continue to do so for YEARS

I didn't say every crew was rigging games. The potential for rigging games is there.

I don’t think this stuff is intentional. I just think a lot of refs are out of shape and incompetent. But I don’t blame them because it’s a part time gig and these guys have real jobs and real families and probably travel in Friday night late, get little sleep and then have to perform in front of thousands with cameras all over the place.

They need to be professionalized including physical fitness tests and age limits.

Officials like players and coaches are human and will make mistakes.

When players and coaches make mistakes there are consequences

When officials make mistakes it does not seem like there are consequences

Now these days, the officials are the ones who are paid the least and only work part time, so maybe that needs to be fixed as well.

There needs to be a drastic reduction in targeting and pass interference calls.

The game is dying a slow death because of things like this.

So if they hire me as a “professionalized” official and I perform well for 10 years and have no other career, what do I do if I mess up and they fire me? I would bet that a man that is a full-time official is gonna make errors at about the same rate as what people call “part time”.

As an aside, big-time college and pro officials are professionals with regards to the amount of time and commitment to learning rules and philosophies. None of them want to lose the gig. It pays pretty dang good.

I just think people don’t realize that it’s a difficult endeavor to get close to perfect because of the speed of the game and the complexity of the rules. When we watch on tv we see everything in slow motion after the fact. So it’s easy to pretend like it’s unbelievable that an official that saw it in real time didn’t see it the way we did in slow motion.

Think about how many call would be missed if there wasn’t instant replay.

Dude’s career was built on getting away with as much pass interference as humanly possible lol

Who the frick wants to do it?

I would imagine refs don't get paid shite compared to everyone else involved.

LOL Frick Dabo

I watched an SEC crew keep his team in the game against LSU with very blatant bad calls.

Then a few weeks later I watch other games where similar calls made against LSU went in favor of other teams that the SEC was clearly rigging the game for.

He's not wrong, but he was damn near handed an opening game win thanks to blatantly crooked officials.
