I know of a 7th grader whose mom was being paid this year ro play on a local league team. 12 year old. Mom getting a couple thousand for this.

no offense, but that's a TERRIBLE comparison
most CFB fans including myself are upset that the very nature of CFB is being transformed, in multiple ways. whether a team is doing well or not isn't the case here, as you somehow tried to show via the cowboys
for me, the biggest issue is the expanded playoff format. it's basically a modified version of the NFL's way of determining a champion, which i hate. CFB has had a unique, albeit imperfect, way of selecting who gets to play for the national title. the main positive has been that the regular season has been super exciting and unpredictable, but that's gonna change now that a "blue blood" team can lose 2, maybe 3 times and still make the playoff and contend for a championship
yuck
the NIL sucks also. makes it a minor league system
I don't disagree with any of this. But, data shows that a lot of people agree with you, yet the money flow into college football gets bigger and bigger.

The faster the athletic departments break off from universities and form sporting clubs the sooner this all gets sorted out. From there run them as a business and delink educational funding from the equation
Can you describe what you mean by that?
Obviously the universities will need to be involved.

Tennessee will add a 10% “talent fee” on all football tickets, starting next season.

If I /We the season tickets holders are paying part of the price of their salaries............you damn better believe I have a right to tell them to bench "said" player when he screws up or acts a fool. I am paying part of his salary...........so I have a say in this now.............right???
You've been paying pros salaries for the entire history of sports, when did you start having a right to tell the coach who gets to start?

At this point, why should they get free tuition? They are getting paid now. Let them pay their own tuition.
Can we stop pretending they’re actually students?

Definitely the first time an athletic department has raised ticket prices

revenue share w/the players
Do sports that lose money get a share of any NIL the players make?

Yep. When I was in school. Cadillac lived a few doors down from my buddy. It was not a very nice complex and he drove a 93 caddy. He actually went to class too. He’d be living in Atlanta driving a Lamborghini these days and never see the inside of a classroom.

It won't last forever as it all becomes so expensive that fans have no other choice but drop season tickets.

Colleg sports has been done for a while now

That was AD Hunter Yuracheck begging.

What about the have and have-not situation between athletes? How does that not create tension all around? It even makes a free market capitalist have second thoughts.
Posted on 9/17/24 at 6:46 pm to Bjorn Cyborg
Coaches salaries are outrageous due to agents like Jimmy Sexton that keep getting the better of these ADs.

Pretty sure NIL is a personal thing with the athlete.

The best part of it was the AD being quoted saying that fans are going to love paying it and it'll likely increase ticket sales, lol.
Could one be more disconnected?

nope
agents like Sexton getting the better of ADs are just a symptom of the bigger issue - CFB is a financial behemoth that was unsustainable for the past several decades due to the large disparities of the haves and have nots
and honestly, we the fans are the biggest cause of that. Sexton is just a by-product. no one wants to admit that or talk about it, and we always wanna play victim, but think about it
does anyone care about the stipends/monetary benefits of golfers, swimmers, or lacrosse players? nope. because no one watches those sports, and they don't bring in any money

You’re in the business of selling hope to fans… do you want to be known as the AD who didn’t keep a hotshot coach when you had the ability to do so?

The have nots are irrelevant to these issues… they’re at the mercy of the haves continuing to spend money on almost guaranteed home beatdowns
