Meh. Alabama won a CFP game last year and is still well-positioned in the current climate.

Well on some level I respect Dabo for not giving in to it all.
He’s in the middle of a $115,000,000 contract. Clemson would owe him $57.000,000 if they fired him at the end of the season. Absurd money for what is essentially an extracurricular activity at an institution of higher learning.
Dabo (and other coaches) are eating at the same trough of greed and money as the players. The coaches were just there first, and any coaches who try to butt out players looking for a spot to feed won’t survive.
But Clemson’s problems are bigger than NIL and the portal. They have looked dysfunctional at times in recent years, and Dabo has made a number of coordinator and assistant changes on both sides of the ball that haven’t improved the program. Morris is the third OC in five years, and he isn’t off to a very good start.
Im in no way defending the amount of money involved with coaches. What Im saying is that he said he was against paying players on principal and taking portal kids and they did neither for awhile. By the time he got with the times Clemson had been left behind. They are not a draw in recruiting anymore and are headed for the dustbin of mediocrity. Im saying that if you want to be principled youre better off out of the sport.

I remember watching the pregame last night and Dabo had this Gomer Pyle “awe shucks” attitude about the atmosphere at Tiger Stadium.
I don’t know it was, just seemed like a guy getting through his contract and didn’t really give a shite.
I’m not a Clemson guy but they deserve better. This era of football, with its NIL and unregulated transfer portal has left Dabo way behind.

Regardless of the NIL stuff of Clemson as a whole, there comes a point where a checked out coach with a legacy there begins to rot out the whole program, and a change is needed. Dabo is like 3 years past it
Their NIL backing may limit them from ever becoming what they were a decade ago, but you can’t keep trotting out Dabo and doing the same thing every year
I think they’ll announce it’ll be his last year towards the end of the season, and work out a deal with him to go out and maybe spread out that cash so they can give him a send off
Probably would go cheap young coordinator route unless they think Venerables would be crazy enough to leap (he wouldn’t), put all the dollars you can into NIL and hope for a spark or aim to be a competing but never dominant ACC team.

Great win for LSU last night but it's pretty obvious for all to see that Dabo Sweeney is not suited for this new era of college football we find ourselves in. Since the advent of NIL and the transfer portal his program has been on a pretty steep decline. I think he waited too late to embrace the new world order and has too much ground to make up after refusing to change for 4-5 years.
I think he's gone from the game by the end of next season if he continues to get embarrassed like he did last night.
Well we’ll have a clearer idea after week 3.

Good I hope Dabo fails after football too the sanctimonious little shite

Bama won 11 games and won a playoff game last season, and has a top 5 roster in terms of talent. Try again.

don’t think Dabo just became a bad coach
Dabo has proven that without a #1 overall draft pick at QB and a nationally elite DC hes barely better than mediocre.
All the great ones have shown they can win with multiple assistants, multiple QBs, etc. Dabo hasn't and can't. What we saw last night isn't just chalked up to "they don't use the portal". Guys were lazy, out of position, loafing half speed, clueless, no effort, etc. It's a crap program with an overrated cheerleader as a coach.

You know, same thing happened to Bear twice. USC trashed him so he adapted and got black players. Got beat again and went and got the wishbone.

I have always liked Dabo. He is well accomplished…. I remember thinking after his last title how he would be Saban’s heir one day…. Wrong about that one.
But all good things come to an end at some point and maybe it’s best for Clemson and Dabo to split. If/when that happens it should be a sad for an era that one was…..

Dabo would be good on TV.

Clemson can’t keep up with the big dawggggsssss
Dabo was propped up by Brett Venables who was a master at stealing signs or had someone on staff that could do it.
When Venables left ClemPson fell apart.
I do not like Dabo as I find him to be disingenuous. He did embrace the transfer portal and NIL.
The taters will be back at Tommy Bowden levels for a while.

This is his problem not talent but coaching. You look at last years roster, full of talent, Dline, QB, WR, DB. Not saying he’s on par with the elites talent wise but the reason he’s being passed up by the likes of SMU, Duke, Ga Tech etc.. isn’t because of a talent disparity.

Let's not overlook Tony Elliott. He was there for the entire peak run at Clemson and left the same year as BV. He has UVA looking really good too and in the same conference as Dabo and made the ACC CG last year and looked really damn good week 1.

Definitely looking like Venables and Elliott were the core of that Clemson staff, as well as a tremendous loss of knowledge, strategy, and discipline.

Dabo has Chad Morris and Matt Luke running his offense now. It's sad but that's just unserious staffing.
Elliott and Venables are better HCs than Dabo in 2026. They don't have the legacy Dabo has if CFB just ended today and we just look back at history, but like if Kiffin died in a Bo Rein style plane crash, I would 1000% prefer Tony Elliott or Brent Venables taking over LSU than Dabo today.

great point. It really is comical how highly thought of dabo is when he basically pulled a 2019 orgeron by simply being surrounded by elite greatness at every turn. I'd argue that Richt is a better actual head coach than dabo. Not to mention dabo has feasted his whole career on an utterly craptastic ACC. When duke, wake forest, boston college, ga tech, unc, etc. are representing in your championship game you know there aint a ton of real competition going on.
