Check what Kevin Durant, Kevin Love, Chris Paul, Zion Williamson and Derrick Rose did in high school and then get back to me.

LeBron is definitely not the best high school basketball player of the last 20 years.

Comparing across generations and different positions of NBA careers is dumb enough and now people really want to fricking compare and debate about High School careers?

This Holgrem guy will be a fine NBA player. He won’t be the GOAT or anything but I see shades of Lamar Odom in his game.

Don’t confuse “best high school player” with “best player on the best high school team” like so many in the lazy media do

Lebron is the only high school player I have tuned in to watch, ever. Watching high school sports is weird unless it's your alma mater or your kids school.

Just because LeBron has been one of the best NBA players of the last 20 years doesn’t mean he was the best high school basketball players of the last 20 years.

i mean Lebron was on the cover of SI...as a junior

this is complete revisionist history that he wasn't a world beater, lifetime prospect, in high school

and that's back when guys went straight from high school so there was a ton of like-to-like comparisons for his contemporaries

You want to complain that LeBron had great stats against easy competition (which is a complaint that can be made about any high school player ever until the last 7-8 years) and then bring up Zion Williamson?

Zion, who wasn't even considered the best HS player who committed to Duke that year

maybe, but what does what he did in the NBA have to do with it?

Are you and thee really this slow?

I’m talking about his very first year in the nba. He had the best ever season for a freaking 19 year old in nba history, much less the last 20 years

So if he was that freaking good at 19, better than anyone ever, are y’all saying he magically unproved from when he graduated to starting the nba 4 months later?

SI has that “next big thing” issue every single year and half of those NBTs never make it to the pros, much less become the big thing.

Check LeBron’s stats and accomplishments in high school and his competition and get back to me.

What does Luka Doncic have to do with his thread?

Michael Jordan is the consensus greatest basketball player ever. Doesn’t mean he was the best high school basketball player ever.

Looking like the best player in a League of the literal best players in the world is pretty different than looking like the best player in a weak high school division.
So the best player can only play on a team that plays good competition? That really doesn't make sense.

This is a peak MSB discussion.

Chet is really good and skilled. Lebron was an absolute athletic phenom with ridiculous PG skills in a future SF body in HS. He was absurd.

Chet might actually be more skilled than he was at the same point, but that’s not the same as being the total force of nature that Lebron was. Never seen anything like Lebron at the HS level.

Regardless, Chet is going to be very good in college. He needs to add a lot of strength but damn can he play.

There are so many HS players that it does make sense.

You have to have a sweet spot of being a good player + good competition + teammates who are good enough that you have room to perform but are not good enough that they can win without you

kids get told that "if you can play, they'll find you", but that just isn't true. Some places do expose you better than others.

Two things can be true… of course some places offer better exposure… but please believe if you good enough… the powers at be will most definitely find you… every small town got somebody who graduated from somewhere

Speaking of Chet, I think one or two of on this board were able to see Minnehaha in 2019-20… that team was loaded. In addition to Chet, they also had Jalen Suggs, Prince Aglibe (four-star in 2022) and four B1G football commits, including a dude who is choosing between Iowa and Michigan State this cycle. They were fun to watch.

Minnesota has pumped out quite a few high-major basketball players in the last few cycles — most of these dudes are from MSP, but you’ll see a few coming through SW Minnesota, too.

This is so dumb. The best player is the best player regardless of what classification he plays in

If Aaron Rodgers today went play high school football, he would be the best high school player of all time even if you put him on a team in Alaska that plays against absolutely no competition

True. Because MJ went into college and developed

Lebron went into the nba and was unreal at 19. He is the best high school player ever

Your argument is Lebron must have made a monumental jump between graduating high school in may and starting the nba in October

MJ was a McDonalds All-American… he was already a great player… plus he started for Dean his freshman year…

LeBron different though… a argument could be made that The King probably the greatest HS player ever… simply based on his senior year- rookie year production… he was clearly the best player on the Cavs … more than likely a top 20 player his rookie year also …

I’m saying that playing crap competition can make a player look better than they are.

Let me use this analogy. We know Alabama was the best team in college football last year because they were in the best conference beating the best teams. Ole Miss went 5-5 playing the best teams in the country. Now if you took that same Ole Miss team and had them play a Sun Belt schedule, their record would be better and they would have better stats. If you took that same team and had them play at the FCS level, they would win the national title and be even more dominant.

Competition matters. What he has done in the NBA is irrelevant to what he did in high school and vice versa.
