I wonder if he feels the same way about his Heisman and his NC.

I mean, this isn't what you'd want to hear from your franchise quarterback. But for a guy looking back in hindsight at his career, I really don't think it is that bad of a take.

Winning Superbowls require much more than just 1 person being on point. Cam deserves his fair share of the blame for that game, for sure. But also, what if his receivers got open more, what if his line held their blocks longer, what if his runningbacks could have found the hole. What if the coach gameplanned better and called better plays.

The flip side of this is what if someone asked:

“Would you rather Eli manning or Dan Marino’s career”

I think only a complete weak loser would say Eli

It's pretty clear that Cam is a "me first" guy.

This is no surprise. He's always been a me, not we, kinda guy.

Cam was always about Cam.

No surprise there, Cam has always been about himself. In a team sport, he only cares about personal accolades.

To the players, the NFL isn’t a “team sport.” It is a business, a job. And it doesn’t really give a frick about you if you don’t produce. You will be cut or sidelined the moment the franchise finds someone better - no matter what you did in the past.

If you worked for Alfa, would you rather be the top salesman in all of insurance or would you rather sacrifice personal success (and money) so Alfa can be the top insurance business?

I don’t know too many people with bills to pay who would put a company’s interests above their own.

I know winning a Super Bowl as a QB in the NFL carries positives with it too, but I don’t begrudge any professional athlete for putting their own bottom line interests ahead of the franchise because the franchise isn’t going to sacrifice for them either.

I can 100% guarantee MaHomeBaw would rather have Super Bowl hardware rather than MVPs.

Cam has like 8 kids and probably doesn’t pay child support.

Does Cam have a point here?

What point? That he wouldn’t trade his MVP for a superbowl? That is his opinion…there’s no "point" to be made.

If that football is a team sport and that he ‘did his job’ is the point you are referring to then yes, he does have a point.

This reminds me of the night he won the Heisman a girl I went to high school with unfriended me after she made such a big deal about Heisman winners and how Auburn's 3 Heisman winners were a bigger accomplishment than any of Alabama's national titles and how she didn't care what happened vs Oregon the next month now that Cam won the Heisman. Apparently she didn't like the fact I called her an idiot for saying that and how she and Cam were probably the only people that thought that and how every other player not named Cam would easily trade his Heisman win so they could win the natty. "Well good thing I'm not on the team then!"

Anyway congrats Cam and you're still an idiot for wanting a MVP instead of a SB ring.

When you’re an idiot, you tend to say some idiotic things.

2 Super Bowls and HOF (he’s getting in whether or not you agree that he should) vs 1 MVP and HOF.

Eli finished 4000 yards behind Marino in 1 fewer season.

Biggest knock against Eli is he was never really considered to be top 5-10 while he played. Otherwise, I don’t think it’s quite the slam dunk you’re making it out to be.

Being absolutely one of the best QBs of your generation or being barely above average for your generation but on a good team

Once again only a weak loser chooses Eli’s career

Your goal as a man in any profession is to be the best you can be. To choose “I don’t really want to be the best I would rather be mediocre at a good team(or company)” is weak

That’s why the premise of this question is always so dumb

Surprising.

ETA: I missed this post on the first page. But this effort deserves repeated ridicule.

I completely agree with you.

This isn’t specific to Cam, but being a professional football player is, you know, a fricking job - the point of which is to make money to support your livelihood. Above all else, people want money and job security over the company being ultra successful. Being an NFL MVP (the best in the game) is generally going to do more for that than winning a Super Bowl. Dan Marino is a hell of a lot more likely to be in commercial in 2025 than Mark Rypien or Trent Dilfer or Jeff Hostetler.

The players who have achieved their financial goals and are HOF locks might start to put team interests ahead of their own just like an 80-year-old billionaire may think about his legacy more than his next billion. But when you’re still trying to achieve your financial and individual goals, people are often more concerned about themselves.

Phil Jackson said something to the effect back in the 70's. Not all but a lot of black athletes value individual success over team success. Obviously this doesn't apply to everyone, but a lot are like this. This is Cam, his personal success always came first.

less people have MVPs than super bowls, it's a tougher achievement.

That’s irrelevant to the MVP vs Super Bowl debate though. Marino would be considered one of the greats without the MVP he won in the second year of a 17 season career.

Ask this question of someone who has both. I doubt Elway would trade one of his Super Bowls for another MVP. Peyton Manning may be willing to trade an MVP for another Super Bowls.
