With the expansion of legalized sports betting, Bowl Games have become even more valuable and ratings have reflected it.
Additionally, if you are a true football fan, you get to watch/learn about 60 different teams without having to channel flip between games.
I love it and think yesterday’s games were fantastic and fun.

Probably been said already, but these games enable a lot of additional practice time and reps for young and developing players in every program. Schools that miss out on bowl prep miss a lot of reps.

Winning the Rose, sugar, fiesta, cotton, citrus, peach, orange bowls meant a lot and still means a lot to these schools.
From powerhouses like Alabama to bottom feeders like Kansas, those trophies are all proudly on display.

They never did mean anything.
Schools don't hang banners that say "5x Capital One Bowl winner, 2x Independence Bowl Winner, 1x Mayonnaise Bowl winner.
Teams hang banners for their National Championship, or their Conference Championship, that's it.

I disagree. Tulane is proud of their 1998 Liberty Bowl victory and should rightfully be so.

Good for them. I guess “powerhouses” like Tulane still place high significance on bowl games. You go little brother.

40 years ago when there were only 15 bowls - they all meant something. And the true "New Years Day bowls" (Cotton, Orange, Rose, Sugar) were incredibly meaningful.
40 years ago, you were a kid who was excited to be home from school watching football on TV.
Today, you're a whiny old man who bitches about everything when your one favorite team isn't dominating.
That's what's changed: your attitude, not the bowls. Bowls did not suddenly become meaningless exhibitions. As always, they're fun for most of the players and fans who actually enjoy and understand the game of football.

While most of these bowl games are meaningless, it was fun for us to face an old rival in Cincinnati who we don’t play anymore and smoke ‘em
But it’s more football and that’s all I care about. Come February/March most of you will be begging for College Football. So enjoy it

Bowl games have been meaningless long before the transfer portal.
I heard a coach say something the other day after winning a bowl; something like "there will be 34 champions and we will be one".
That USED to be true, you used to focus on winning the bowl, and hey if the polls fell the right way, you were considered "number 1" (not 'national champions'). Nebraska might win the Orange, but if you won the Sugar, you were just as happy, even if you didn't get the AP or UPI ranking.
In a lot of ways, I think that was a better system. There's over 100 teams, you're not going to ever really get a good representative playoff. You ASSUME Bama or Ohio State etc would win, but if you don't get the game you don't know.
You look back at the NFL in the 80's/90's, you don't think of the Buffalo Bills as a dominant team, just a good one. They went to 4 straight Super Bowls, which was insane... they lost each one. Bills fans were sick about it, not happy that they had one of the greatest runs ever. You now see that in college, Oklahoma got shamed for being a perennial top 4 team.
Previous decades, Fla State was hailed as a dynasty, for being a perennial Top 5 team. For the longest time, they didn't win a title.

Who watches The NIT,if you are a Football School and there's no chance of winning a National Championship, do you want to watch a meaningless bowl
Yes because I am a college football fan and I like to watch college football games, unlike you apparently.
Maybe you should switch to queer eye?

It’s hilarious because at most a handful of players opt out of games and people like you let that ruin entire experiences for you? It’s barely changed you’re just choosing to be overly reactionary.
Most of the draft eligible players (the best players) opt out…countless other starters opt out due to transfer…it’s barely changed? Really?
Bowl games used to make the final AP rankings significant. With most of these teams having key players opt out, these are just exhibitions with incomplete teams, which nullifies any value of a postseason ranking. Wasn’t like that up until like 5 years ago

Tell that to #5 1983 Miami. Or 1974 #5 USC that beat #3 Ohio State in the Rose Bowl and won the Coaches National Title because #2 Bama lost their Bowl game to #9 Notre Dame. OU won the AP title but didn't play in a bowl game as they were on probation.

They could fix the bowl games with money to players.

Regular season games are meaningless too.
You don't have to win your conference to make the playoffs or play in the title game.
Alabama knows that. OSU too.

If they didn’t mean anything the TV Networks wouldn’t pay to broadcast each and every one of them
You really think that something is important just because it's on TV? Idiotic take.
