If they didn’t mean anything the TV Networks wouldn’t pay to broadcast each and every one of them.
Most of your post made sense, but this. Bowl games are reality tv that is very inexpensive to produce. This is why there are so many and why ESPN, and other networks, love to televise them. It’s about easy money to the tv networks. Nothing more, nothing less.

having 42 bowl games has destroyed the bowl games for some people.
For many players, the risk/reward has taken over as the main guiding factor.

Well where do you think the Bowl Payout money comes from? It isn’t from ticket sales. The vast majority comes from TV broadcast revenue. So it’s millions to broadcast even the smallest Bowl.

Another way to look at it: Bowl games are now a preview of next season’s potential. They are no longer a representation of this year’s success.

Yep, but people here still think they hold some kind of relevance. They are literally glorified scrimmages now and that’s fine if you wanna watch your favorite team play a scrimmage. Just don’t get mad when players opt out

For some players it means nothing. Others who are still trying to make it, it means everything.

do you want to watch a meaningless bowl
I do but I love watching college football. Also I love watching LSU football and I only get 13-15 times a year to do it so I am going to do it.
It’s ok if that’s not your thing but it is some of ours thing and I’m not sure why it bothers some people so much that it is.

Non championship bowl games are a tv slot sold by suits. The players don’t get cut in on the profits and risk everything for a mostly meaningless game. I don’t blame players that want to start draft prep instead.

Bowls have been meaningless since the BCS started in 1998. I will agree the precedent of opting out that started 5-6 years ago has taken most of the remaining fun out but I’m still exited to watch the tigers play

You don't know who the other players on the other teams are so why does it matter?

The transfer portal and players opting out has destroyed the bowl games.
You have that backwards....the CFP destroyed the value of bowls and the reduction is value / perception is what has caused the opt outs. Get used to it because it is only going to get worse as the playoff expands. I promise you that in-season opt outs will be much more prevalent after the playoff expansion.

The only two things they have ever meant was being a way to drum up tourism during the winter time and getting something on TV that people will watch live for 3 hours.

We’re talking about this for teams that went 8-4 or worse… how much success did they really have?
Tulane is about to play their biggest game in generations because of the success they had this season. If USC doesn’t treat it like that it’s not their problem

This game means I get to see my Tigers play (and win) once more!

They didn't really meant anything before either, you just cared for some reason.
This is what I don't get. Before the BCS, none of the bowls really meant anything. They were (and still are, mostly) glorified exhibition games. The BCS created the idea of a bowl serving as the "National Championship". Before that, you'd be lucky to have #1 and #2 play each other.
I don't know how "old" OP is, but in my lifetime, only a handful of bowls have ever actually meant anything. The CFP made more games matter than ever before.
All Of that being said, I've still always enjoyed the bowl games with good matchups. I don't care about the New Orleans Bowl or some of these other games between 6-6 teams, but the Holiday Bowl is always a good watch. The Citrus, Outback, Orange, etc. are all great games.

first game yesterday was a turd, the other 3 after it were all great games, especially the ending of the arkansas game.
odd post since yesterday was the first day they had any good games IMHO
as for meaning anything at all, thats all dependent on you caring about the teams playing one way or the other, if you dont care about either team, it will be meaningless to you

Somehow all these bowls are generating $ or else there wouldn’t be so many.
Posted on 12/29/22 at 11:54 am to kjntgr
It’s hilarious because at most a handful of players opt out of games and people like you let that ruin entire experiences for you? It’s barely changed you’re just choosing to be overly reactionary.

They’ve never meant much outside of the big ones that used to have a part in the AP’s NC vote.
If you didn’t have fun watching football last night, that’s on you.
