i believe it

i don't give a shite about the membership of a private club. why do you think that's a legitimate social issue?

Has Augusta ever said: "we won't admit blacks or women, or black women?"

I think the privacy is the real issue here. Why people have a hard on for the privacy of this one club...I don't know.

What exactly do people want Augusta National to do or say? Do they even know? Do they want anything at all or do they just want to bring up the past and drag their name through the mud simply for the sake of doing so?

I absolutely believe it. I don't see why anybody should concern themselves with who a PRIVATE ORGANIZATION chooses to have or not have as members. Why do you care?

how is a private club's membership a legitimate social issue?

I don't know. Why don't we ask the entire Civil Rights movement of the 1960s? "It's a private establishment, we're allowed to discriminate" was the essential argument of those who denied service to entire group of people based on nothing but skin color. That's a staggeringly poor question that is completely ignorant of history that I know you're aware of, since you went to law school and read the cases. You absolutely know the legitimate state issue.

Anyway, I would hate it if an announcer brought it up on a broadcast this year, as it would be apropos of nothing. But when there were protests going on during the tournament, it did strike me as silly to not even mention it was going on.

If you open your doors up to the world this comes with the territory

At this point I don't think anyone wants them to do anything. All Costas said he would have done is mention that these things have been issues, that's all.

Agree with sfp, but I have no problem with costas saying what he did. If you don't like him, don't listen to his coverage. Pretty simple.

Wouldn't it be as equally simple for Costas and others who don't like Augusta to not watch The Masters?

and i don't think that they are wrong, and i think that provision of federal law is bad law infringing on the property rights of individuals

the main reason for the civil rights act was to combat state-based, racial discrimination, which was a wonderful thing

but this is a non-issue, as the CRA doesn't apply to private clubs and never has.

it horrible logic made out of emotion and not rationality. the civil rights cases that dealt with private property completely fricked up our federal system of government and gave the the feds unlimited power, essentially

but, again...that has nothing to do with Augusta, which is a private club. i know you read THAT case

It seems that a lot of these people pissed at Augusta National would rather they continue to be "racist, sexist, etc." just so that they have the "standing" to continue to bitch and moan at an very elite golf club.

ANGC can't win when all the whiners like Costas keep moving the goalposts from "You need to admit women" to "You didn't do it soon enough."

frick Costas.
