It’s crazy that this happened on MNF between two top teams.
If this were with a couple of non-playoff teams, the decision is easy, and no impact to standings.
The fact that these teams were in the hunt for a bye makes this a tough situation for the NFL.

Everyone that says “it was t a big hit” need some perspective. Was it as big as other nfl hits? Of course not. But it was still a 220 lb man running 18 mph that hit him square in the chest. For the human body, that is a “big hit”
It seemed like a routine hit for NFL football but there are always other factors.

It is a "big hit" that occurs thousands of times in the course of an NFL season and this isn't the end result of any of them before tonight.

I mean SVP can probably handle this the best of all their on air talent.
Again, credit to Booger.

ESPN's money well spent on Joe Buck for this moment.

Thank god we finally have a professional on the television. Good lord. Thank god they cut the MNF studio crew.
ETA: except for booger. He was awesome.

It's incredibly stupid that they don't have contingency plans and were not prepared to act more quickly
Contingency plans for how to handle the logistics of a schedule if a player collapses during a game? All that matters on acting quickly is that Hamlin received the care he needed. That happened. Knowing exactly what to do, quickly, about the game itself is unimportant

Yeah SVP is the only person that should be on the screen right now.

NFL STATEMENT ON BILLS-BENGALS GAME Tonight's Buffalo Bills-Cincinnati Bengals game has been postponed after Buffalo Bills' Damar Hamlin collapsed, NFL Commissioner Roger Goodell announced. Hamlin received immediate medical attention on the field by team and independent medical staff and local paramedics. He was then transported to a local hospital where he is in critical condition.
Our thoughts are with Damar and the Buffalo Bills. We will provide more information as it becomes available. The NFL has been in constant communication with the NFL Plavers Association which is in agreement with postponing the game.

This thread has really shown how many try hards we have here. I’ve never seen so many people trying to be edgy.

What are the odds this is temporary? Is a vent always a sign it’s over or is it just a bad sign that can be overcome?
When someone is unconscious the muscles in the throat collapse and shut off the airway. Intubation secures the airway and that is kind of a big deal in fact securing the airway is the most important thing. Once he regains consciousness then the ET can be pulled out. Intubation is never a good sign but it’s not always a bad sign either.
ETA: Just speculating here but from watching the video of the hit he got hit right in the sternum and he probably suffered injury to the pericardial tissue surrounding the heart. He probably went into cardiac arrest secondary to pericardial tamponade (fluid in this case blood surrounds the heart and prevents it from beating) which presents with a sudden severe drop in blood pressure 30 seconds or so after the trauma which would explain why he got up and the passed out. Again, I am just speculating.

Looks like the same thing that happened to Danish soccer player Christian Eriksen. Had a heart attack on the field. Heart stopped. They shocked him back. Hopefully Hamlin pulls through like Eriksen did.

Did the hit to the chest officially cause this? Or did he have a heart attack that was completely unconnected to the hit?

But they said he had a pulse. I don’t know shite, so im legitimately asking. Would that cause you to stop breathing while maintains a pulse?
Did they say he had a pulse after cpr? You don’t administer cpr when a pulse is present.
