What are the odds this is temporary? Is a vent always a sign it’s over or is it just a bad sign that can be overcome?
Intubation is when they jam a tube down your throat, not just oxygen mask. They generally don't do it to people who are conscious or have a pulse. He is in critical condition.

So what the hell could have happened? Could a lung collapse from that hit?
Nothing to do with his lungs, intubation is a standard part of cardiopulmonary resuscitation

It wasn't a collapsed lung. They were doing CPR on him. His heart stopped.

Everyone that says “it was t a big hit” need some perspective. Was it as big as other nfl hits? Of course not. But it was still a 220 lb man running 18 mph that hit him square in the chest. For the human body, that is a “big hit”

He’s not wrong. Football will continue. The question will be in what way.

Intubation means they are breathing for you. They also are keeping you out until the tube is removed. Actually they gradually take you off the meds keeping you out. It is better to start breathing on your own a little with the tube still in rather than have to suddenly put it back in.

NFL didn’t cancel the game. Does the league still think they can resume it tomorrow?
this is the NFL saying “look we know we can’t play tonight. Everybody go home, gather yourselves, and we’ll come to the table with (hopefully) clearer heads tomorrow to determine the appropriate path from here”

He has a history of these types of posts and there is some definite obvious “tones” behind his comments but the admins just let him go.

I was intubated for 6 days in a medically induced coma. It’s not always permanent but can be

But they said he had a pulse. I don’t know shite, so im legitimately asking. Would that cause you to stop breathing while maintains a pulse?
Having a pulse is good news but yea you can have a pulse but not be able to breathe. Could be more about he’s not breathing on his own because he’s intubated. He will remain intubated regardless of his improvement for tonight

Why is everyone on skip bayless. From what I get from his comment is the outcome of the game means a lot to the nfl but is irrelevant to the current situation and The current situation is all that matters.

Man. Was really looking forward to watching this game play out (before the injury). Hoping we get some positive news on Hamlin yet this evening.

I'm no doc so someone please correct me. But I am fairly certain that intubation is pretty common after a cardiac arrest b/c it provides oxygen directly to the lungs and keeps the patient from aspirating.

Also depends on what the cause of the injury. Did the hit to the chest officially cause this? Or did he have a heart attack that was completely unconnected to the hit? There's just too much unknown at this time.

Only about 30% of people survive long term after being put on a vent following pulmonary arrest
