It isn't. He won't be.

That isn't how the NBA works.

He's going to take his max extension either this offseason or next (more likely), and he can't be traded for 1 year after he signs it.

So he will be here beyond March 2023. Now, 1 year after he signs the max, who knows?

Are you on record stating that the Thunder and Magic will also be moved due to being unable to keep stars?

He'll be leaving I believe $60mil or more on the table if he's traded before your deadline. Or he can stay 1 additional year, get all that money, and then demand a trade.

Theoretically he could take the QO.

However, someone with his injury track record would be fricking insane to do so simply because of the money left on the table by doing so.

Maybe if he had been healthy and amazing the past 3 years and was still unhappy he would be a guy to do it.

He's played 85 games.

Dude will take the bag regardless of how he feels.

They're paying athletes way too much if they can afford to buy teams. That's like your McDonald's cashier buying a competing franchise after she leaves your employment.

Look at the list of guys who are doing so though, even as minority interests

Jordan
Mahomes
Jeter
Lemeiux
Wade
potentially Lebron

It’s still not something just any scrub can do

Like you said, these dudes are "buying" teams, but they have a bunch of other investors. They're minority owners but the face of the franchise and decision makers.

A new team will cost $3bil or so it seems. Lebron doesn't have $3bil total, much less $3bil to buy a team. He'd own a "small" stake in a team, relatively speaking of course, but be considered the owner and face of the franchise while the dudes who may own bigger stakes doing so in the background.

Right but if the team isn't actively playing he can be an owner and not break any rules. They technically don't exist until the league year starts in which they play.

No the team exists once they pay the NBA the expansion fee and the NBA cashes the check.

If Vegas and Seattle were added, only one team from the West would move East, either Memphis or NOLA.

I hope it would be NOLA but I could see it being either.

A strong possibility to be the team to switch to the east will be Minnesota, currently in the Northwest Division with Portland, Utah, Denver, and OKC- the most spread-out division in the league.

The "Southwest" division with the three Texas teams, Memphis and New Orleans is a good geographical grouping.

At least the NBA (unlike the NFL) has a sense of east and west, with the Mississippi River serving as the general east/west boundary (all Western Conference teams are either west of or ON that river).

I actually really like Richard Jefferson and Matt Barnes as analysts. Kendrick is terrible though.

Neither can Orlando, Detroit, OKC, Sacramento...

Those teams are currently bigger dumpster fires than the Pelicans - both record and attendance wise - and nobody talks about moving them

It was only a matter of time until Seattle gets the Supersonics back. Good for them.
