My point isn’t that Simmons has real mental health issues. He probably doesn’t.

My point is that the likes of Demar DeRozan, Kevin Love, Delonte West, and others have had acknowledged real mental health issues and many of them tended to keep those issues quiet because they didn’t want to be seen as an opportunistic sack of shite like Simmons, blaming mental illness for their issues.

The pendulum has swung VERY far in the opposite direction wherein the media will go out of their way to protect any athlete that claims any mental health issue, and it is basically an impenetrable forcefield against any criticism at this point. See: gymnasts, tennis players

Ben and more importantly Rich Paul know this and are using it as a shield. It is completely made up.

classic example of a player who was been sheltered from negativity his entire life and propped up as the next best player during his upbringing

doesn’t want to take responsibility or accountability for his troubling playoff performance

doesn’t want to try to get better and work on his game

doesn’t think he needs to answer to anyone

doesn’t know how to handle pressure

doesn’t seem to care about any of his teammates

frick him

Can one look at Ben Simmons over the past few years and say he is of sound mental health with no questions? I doubt it.

Problem is that using this after numerous other excuses is sketchy as hell.

Solid post

This whole ‘mental health’ shite is an attempt to save face by his agent or manager or whoever… next we’ll hear ‘he just needs a fresh start somewhere else’

He’s not going to just magically stop being a soft, bitchass bitch though, no matter where he ends up

A lot of the issues go back to Simmons being stubborn on not changing up his game to match the talent around him.

A guy who can’t hit a FT or a shot with any distance is an offensive liability. Typically a player like that is put at center so that they can get shots at the rim and aren’t blocking the paint by being paired with other guys who don’t have distance.

No matter where he goes, if he doesn’t change his game he will never make it to the finals or a title as one of the team’s stars.

As a complimentary piece a la Vince Carter or Grant Hill toward the end of their career? Potentially if he is being paid in line with his production as opposed to being a max player.

Simmons is the poster child for why players with mental health issues generally kept them close to the vest.

I’m a huge supporter of those with mental health issues. It’s important to understand that not all mental health issues are diagnosed, and not all who claim to have mental health issues have them.

I’m sure it can impact work ethic, but it doesn’t excuse childish behavior. He’s had PLENTY of time to discuss this with team doctors. If he did that, Doc and his teammates would have supported him.

Simmons didn’t do that (to our knowledge). I have a hard time believing that in a few months, he’s developed mental issues that are forcing him to behave in this manner.

Sources: Ben Simmons spoke to Doc Rivers, Joel Embiid and entire 76ers team today and accepted everyone needs to take responsibility, including himself — but Simmons informed them all that he’s not mentally ready to play yet and needs time.

"Everyone needs to take responsibility for the fact that I'm a douchebag"

I guess it's kinda my fault as well but it's nothing compared to the rest of you.

Guess the back injury didn't hold up to examination huh

Every time I think this kid can’t frick up worse, he does.

I know he is fricking stupid but even Rich Paul has to be thinking this is a disaster right about now.

The question you should be asking yourself is why do you care? Noone can change tour opinion of ben simmons.

It seems clear to me that himself/his handlers/his agent think his best move is to go somewhere else. The rest is just theater and maneuvering

Trying to kill your value to the point where you get moved for peanuts doesn’t tend to work with a guy like Morey at the helm.

As long as ownership and the team, mainly Embiid, are backing him, Morey will hold out until he gets what he wants or Simmons returns.

I'm just trying to keep up with all the cards...

There's the "black card", "woman card", "white male victim card" and now the "mental health card".

What other cards am I missing?

No. It would have been equally as transparent that he’s trying to force his way out.

Jackie and bill Simmons talked about this this week on his podcast. Jackie said she figured that was what Ben was going to do and that it would be a shame. He can still get paid and how can you prove he’s NOT suffering from mental illness.
