A little under the going rate for a franchise QB.

The CAP is expected to go up drastically...so this isnt that crazy. Plus, did he not just lead the Bucs to an NFC South title and playoff win??? I mean....

Good for him. I'm sure the Bucs will structure it to where they can get out of it after a couple years, if he doesn't perform.

Daniel Jones got a similar bag last year, so it's not unreasonable especially with future cap inflation.

Good for Baker, that dude has dealt with a lot of shite in his career and has continued to work his arse off instead of sail off into the sunset.

I like Baker, I'm not paying that money for him

I'm interested when the league takes a stand and stops paying borderline top 10 guys huge contracts.

Yeah I don’t get the fear of letting mediocre guys walk. He did decent for you last year, but didn’t show anything that says we have to pay him big money, especially if you're planning on letting Evans walk

Mahomes is turning out to be a bargain for the Chiefs.

When they stop paying the top guys monster money, then the rest will even out. As long as the overall market value remains high, so will future QB deals.

When competing for division titles and making the playoffs routinely stops keeping gms and coaches employed at multimillion dollar per year salaries.

It's personal earnings risk mitigation whether they say it or not. Honestly that type of performance can also keep the stadiums filled so owners win to.

Good for him. He’s a top 15 QB in the NFL. He has earned it.

The big salary numbers mean nothing really. The issue only arises if you give them insane guarantees, but giving a guy a Geno type contract allows you to settle that position in the short term but doesn’t prevent you from making a movie when a better opportunity arises isn’t really a big deal. People always freak out about the big numbers and then the same guys are on the chopping block a season or two later with minimal cap implications

There’s no middle class for NFL QBs. If you aren’t mahommes, everyone wants you gone. But there aren’t any more than 5-6 players even close to that level, so naturally the next 10 or so in that queue are going to benefit from that supply and demand issue

Another aspect of this is the salary cap floor. In some cases teams actually are required to spend money, and if they drafted poorly recently and didn’t resign any of their guys, or they held out of giving out bigger contracts, you could be in a position where you need to spend that money now, and if you structure the deal in a smart way, that’s a great way to almost launder that money through a lesser player so you aren’t committed to a longer or more impactful deal

The Bucks needed to pay him to keep him. There were a few teams interested for example the Falcons would probably have liked him for at least two years.

I don't agree with a lot of his takes, but the wildtigercat dude on here nailed this when Mahomes signed his big deal a few years ago.
