They’re going to make the tourney as a 3 seed and make the regional hosts life fricking miserable.

The pitching depth is honestly ridiculous.

So now a separate investigation is taking place centered on Iowa athletes

The University of Alabama fired Brad Bohannon under similar circumstances on Thursday.

His job was cush. He won enough to keep that job for a long time. He recruited well. And was building a roster that would keep Alabama competitive. We would be happy with that. But throws it all away to make $7200 on a stupid bet. Who knows how bad the fallout for the program is now. Alabama got fricked bad in this too.

Has anyone officially reported the lines on the game and how much was put down? $7200 in winnings he didn’t bet $100k as has been reported on TD, but I haven’t seen anything official?

Here is what I HAVENT seen - where is any evidence whatsoever that Bohannon was going to take a cut of the winnings on this bet or that he even frickin knew they guy was going to place a bet based on the info he gave him? I would think those would be important pieces of information to know before we crucify this coach.

I think the line was LSU -245 or something, but no official report on how much money was put down. I honestly think the $100k figure initiated with Jimmy Ott on Hannigriff’s show early in the week. He made an educated guess that it would have probably taken a bet that big to be flagged. I think people took that and ran with it. And with the odds, it made sense—they’d have to bet a shite-ton to make anything substantial.

However, I’m pretty sure Ott came back after talking to some people and said he heard it was in the low 5 figures, like $10-$20k. Which is a much more sensible bet on a college baseball game. But the payout on that would be so small for a guy making $500k a year, that the juice wouldn’t be worth the squeeze on its face. There’s got to be a lot more to this. It’ll be interesting to see what all comes out.

But whether he placed a $100k bet, a $100 bet, or just tipped somebody off, he still should have been shitcanned and never work in baseball at any level where gambling is involved.

Regular gamblers are degenerates. The juice is never worth the squeeze. It doesn't matter if it's $100k or $10. Those types of people can't NOT bet on something. They are always gonna end up losing because they can't stop.

An update to this story.

quote:

On April 28, 2023, prior to Alabama's baseball game against Louisiana State University (LSU),
Bohannon sent several electronic messages via the Signal encrypted messaging application to a
bettor that Bohannon knew was involved in sports wagering activities. The electronic messages
indicated that an Alabama baseball student-athlete (student-athlete 1), the scheduled starting
pitcher for that evening's contest against LSU, would not start the contest due to an injury.
Bohannon provided this information to the bettor before reporting the starting lineup (with student-
athlete 1 replaced as the starting pitcher) to the LSU coaching staff. Specifically, Bohannon texted
the bettor: "HAMMER … [Student-athlete 1] is out for sure … Lemme know when I can tell
LSU… Hurry."

quote:

Shortly after receiving the electronic messages from Bohannon, the bettor attempted to place
a $100,000 wager
on the LSU baseball team at the BetMGM sportsbook at the Great American
Ballpark in Cincinnati but the sportsbook staff limited the bettor to a $15,000 wager. The bettor
then attempted to place additional wagers involving the April 28 Alabama vs. LSU baseball game,

but the sportsbook staff declined the wagers due to suspicious activity. This suspicious activity
included the bettor's insistent demeanor to get the bet placed and statements to sportsbook staff
that the bet was "for sure going to win" and "if only you guys knew what I knew." The suspicious
activity also included the bettor showing sportsbook staff messages from Bohannon and explaining
that the messages were Bohannon informing bettor that Alabama was scratching its starting pitcher
before the game and before Bohannon alerted LSU.

If what is in the report is accurate, then these could be two of the dumbest MFer I've ever seen. The Alabama HC, at minimum, had to know what he was doing was highly questionable. An act that, if caught, would likely prevent him from ever working as a baseball coach again. If he didn't, then he was the dumbest person in college coaching.

Assuming he wasn't, then how do you not make sure you aren't conspiring with a complete dipshit? This had to be the first bet these two idiots ever worked together on, right? No way, when face with suspicion by the sportsbook, do you tell them you know the bet is a "lock".

It has literally nothing to do with character. There is a VERY small market for college baseball betting. So no sportsbook is going to take on a huge amount of risk/liability (such as a $100k bet) on a sport on which the house has relatively little information on...because the market doesn't support that effort.

I'll give Harry and Marv the benefit of the doubt that both were such novice bettors that they weren't aware sportsbooks often have limits on how much you can bet. Particularly on very minor sports. But once you are informed there is a $15k limit you accept it and move on. You don't argue the limit should be raised because you have a "can't lose" bet

News came out recently on this Iowa investigation that caught a bunch of Iowa and Iowa State athletes. The whole thing was done illegally.

The house gets smashed if the line isn’t adjusted to handle inside info.

Doubly so on sports with very low betting activity like college baseball.

This isnt Lefty Rosenthal betting against Kansas basketball because Wilt Chamberlain is out with gigantic swollen balls.

The NCAA in essence ended Bohannon’s college coaching career. It handed down a 15-year show-cause order against Bohannon, which means that any NCAA school that wishes to hire him for an athletically related position over that time frame must first get approval from the NCAA Committee on Infractions. And for the first five years of the show-cause order, any school that wishes to hire him must suspend him for the baseball regular season.
