He’s still alive. At least as of this post. Strange the university would report his death.

Just saw that on the local news.
It’s Alabama A&M so I’m not shocked at the egregious screw up.
Joke of a university.

Did he have a previous concussion that he was playing with? Sounds like second concussion syndrome.

Something similar happened earlier this year with the high school kid from Selma. He was in ICU and the school (or maybe the governing body, AHSAA/private school association) announced he had died. A couple hours later they retracted that report. Later that same evening the family issued a statement that the kid had, in fact, passed away.
I think it has to do with who has the legal authority to release such information. Hopefully, though, this kid is still alive and makes a complete recovery.

The article I read said the family had contacted the school and asked them to communicate his death.
My first thought (well, second thought after “holy shite, how do you screw up this bad?”) was that the family had made a decision to remove life-support and they communicated prematurely based on that decision and the school ran with it. There are occasions where the removal of life support does not have the expected outcome in the expected timeline. If he survived pulling life support, then they may be in a waiting game. Of course this is all speculation until a reputable source reports on what happened here.

Yet, there are many peop[le on this site that think that targeting should be abolished.
If you truly want to get head to head hits out of the game, start calling targeting on offensive players. A ball carrier ducking his head is the main culprit in most of these hits.

How about we actually teach form tackling like we used to. That'll cut down on a vast majority of these targeting hits.
Kids don't know how to form tackle and instead, go for the big hit with the crown of their helmets.

Would be some unreal comms whiplash to go from deceased, remains in stable condition, deceased

Probably palliative extubation, removal of support, now awaiting him to actually pass.
Poor guy, family, teammates, and poor guy who dealt the hit.

That's what I was thinking too.

100% agree. Lowering the head to induce contact should be a foul both ways.

Now that dude is listed in stable condition, which is pretty good for dead, it is probably time to edit the subject title.

At this point, I wouldn't be surprised if he plays in their game this weekend.
Good news about his condition!
