People think Bama always recruited like they do now... But they didn't. Far from it. Saban elevated their recruiting level to previously almost unimaginable heights.

That class with Julio changed everything, then coming out and stomping clemson and uga, we knew it was on. What a fricking run.

I also heard yesterday that the 2009 coaching staff was the highest graded staff of the last 15 years in college FB.

Can’t imagine the lack of scholarships and bowl ban had anything to do with that.

Alabama will still be a strong program post-Saban. But they will be just another upper echelon program, they won’t be the invincible juggernaut they were under Saban.

All of that success and Saban still wasn’t able to field a team as good as LSU’s 2019 team. Greatest team in the history of college football and Saban had no part of it.

I don't think we'll ever see a level of domination quite like that again. From 2009-2021 Alabama pretty much owned the sport of college football.

with recruiting like that, he really underachieved only winning it 6 times.

Probation before him. Y'all are fricking ignorant if you think Alabama is going to fall like Nebraska, especially during the day of NIL and the NCAA having no authority.

Completely agree. Since the 80’s, it was pretty consistent that a top team would go on a run for 3-5 seasons, then someone else would go on a run. Saban had a 14 year run. That is unreal.

You mean a team didn't recruit well when they were sanctioned and banned from postseason play? I'm shocked!

Right, and if you believe that was absolutely natural, purely because of Saban’s recruiting prowess, with no cheating whatsoever, you live in a fantasy world.

But I was told this was his least talented team ever. That he almost made the championship game with 3 stars and some walk-ons.

I think there was something like 14 total scholarships to give out in 2003. That kind of has an effect on recruiting.

Still managed to win 10 games in 2005 and guys like Rolando McLain were already here when Saban showed up.
